Although, if this place was anywhere in city and comparison was made to other places of similar rates, I don't think the rating would cross 2 stars.||However, when you travel to such a region, where finding proper space to shower, eat and sleep sound is a tough affair, you will thank the owner of this property to make this Hotel in such a beautiful yet difficult terrain.||||Staff is young, inexperienced but yet going beyond their duties to make sure, your demands are met. Reception, lobby and lounge areas are spacious and seems sufficient with the property. ||||Rooms are good spacious, old wooden style beds, good enough for 2 in many rooms, shower area is neat as far as standards are considered. I enjoyed the space I got in room and in lounge area, specially watching the TV and football matches. They can try having ventilators in rooms, for guests like me who want fans/air conditioners for sleeping. You need to open the windows for ventilation, but then also get the mosquito for company. Do keep your antibug creams along. ||||Dining area is small but maintaining the simple standards of it. Try not to expect luxury and you will be satisfied. They have a area serving soft drinks and juice, however, for alcohol, you have to get your own including ice. Water bottles available in plenty ( most important of the items in this place)||||Food is good, chef is nice and smiling, trying to meet your needs at the best possible. For Vegans, can be a problem if you don't inform in advance. Breakfast menu is nice, simple and satisfactory. For purely Vegan travelers, do inform in advance for your meal needs. For all others who are foodies, just enjoy the meal, as chef is good but not a 5-star hotel employee. || ||Property is very nice, well connected to road, soothing for the eyes in mornings and evenings. Sitting areas are nicely arranged for spending and relaxing around.||||Overall, in such a deserted place of Kenya, stay at this place won't disappoint. And with free wifi, I have to give them one rating...
Read moreThere are not a lot of options for nice lodging in Marsabit. So we tried the newly opened Jirime Hotel and Resort for 2 nights. Overall, the facility is a low-mid range hotel for rural Kenya. Price was quite reasonable at $30/night. Staff was friendly. Grounds will be nice when the newly planted trees grow. Rooms were basic and had hot water, TV and mosquito netting. I got bitten by fleas, despite the netting, however. TV did not consistently work and only one channel available (that kept changing!). Meals were OK but offered the same limited items each time - rice, veg, chicken, stew. One morning the cook did not show up so we had no breakfast. They have a back up generator for when the power is disrupted. Overall, I wouldn't come here for a vacation, but could stay here if I had to find a place in Marsabit. Just depends on what you are comparing it to. Definitely bring...
Read moreJirime hotel is the best hotel in marsabit... However it is one of the only hotels in marsabit! |Good points are that there is wifi in the rooms and the rooms are clean however... Some of our party received electric shocks from their showers/my bathroom floor was flooded and toilet blocked and showers scolded as electrical fittings weren't right... Members of our group also entered the kitchens and said there was mould and dirty plates were left piled up. Overall we survived on chips as not much could go wrong with them... Unlike the fish we received the previous night which looked like it had been crucified. If you're looking for a hotel to lay your head for the night then by all means but not for a long stay.... Also bring lots of mosquito repellent as our mosquito net had a big hole in the side and we could not...
