Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean. Nice pool, kept well. Good covid protocols. Food tasty and plenty of it. Good hot water for showers. Alcohol reasonably priced. You get 3 small waters in your room and anything more water (eg for dinner) is 425 ksh for a large bottle. Charging for water at dinner seems to be a Samburu county lodge thing, elsewhere in Kenya, it’s included with your meal. |It was our birthday whilst we were there and the staff made a cake as a surprise and sang it in after dinner, which was a nice touch. |There are cheeky Vervet monkeys that will take the opportunity to pinch anything you don’t secure so be sure to keep your tent door shut and don’t leave anything unattended that they can grab and run off with. The staff are good at trying to deter the monkeys though.|The website is not very good when booking or trying to find the place. The website shows Ashnil Samburu as located in the centre of Isiolo when it is actually about 45 mins north. Google maps also shows it wrongly - shows it as north of the river whereas it is in fact south side of the river. The website could do with some written directions rather than the pin on the map, which is in the wrong place.|We were charged an extra 2,500 ksh per person per night as it was Easter. I’d like to think the staff get this extra money but am|not sure they do.|The first night we were there the pillows smelt really sweaty which was pretty grim but when I raised it the following morning, they were quickly swapped out by the staff which was good.|When it came to us settling the bill on departure, it was a little suspect. I was given a total bill to pay but I then checked the chits for our drinks; there were 4 extra chits in there that weren’t ours (there was only one other family staying at Ashnils at the same time as us so it’s not like it was difficult to separate the two...!). Also, we were given a bill for 2,000 ksh for the surprise cake!? We hadn’t asked for it so I refused to pay for it. I would recommend you all fully inspect all your bills on departure to check nothing has been added in there that...
Read moreWonderful place! We had a lovely stay. It was so calm and relaxing, surrounded by nature. I liked the tents with a lot of space and private sitting area. You can even see animals through the fence if you are lucky! We saw an elephant and a giraffe. Inside of the Lodge you can see monkeys and some owls. We picked Ashnil to celebrate our anniversary and they brought live music on our first night and a lovely decorated plate. Very thoughtful detail. Also, the food was very nice. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with plenty of options including vegetarian options. If you have food allergies better check in advance though. I had the best massage ever with Rachel. She literally made all the tension of my body disappear. I was going for a 30 min massage initially but extended for a full hour because it was so so so good (€33) We had our own rental jeep but hired a game drive from the Lodge for early morning hours. Much better experience than trying to do it ourselves and the price was super affordable so ask the lodge in advance and enjoy the experience ($30 USD pp). We saw cheetahs hunting and lions eating! A once in a lifetime moment. Hussein was our super experienced driver. The staff was amazing and the highlight of our stay. All of them were super nice: the lady at the reception, Abdi our room attendant, Marundu from the bar (not sure if I spelled the name right, but this man was a lot of fun and his vibe was amazing! He made us enjoy our afternoon beers even more!) Elvis from the restaurant, Roba from security, Hussain the safari driver, and every single employee at the hotel! I wish I had written all the names down to write a special thank you to each one of them because they all made our stay very pleasant and enjoyable. Always nice to us and...
Read moreWe stayed at Ashnil Samburu in July 2023 for couple of days. We booked it through the Spirit of Kenya. This was the first stop on our African Safari, and it was just fabulous!!! We reached in the afternoon and went straight for lunch. The lunch area has a view of the stream, and we saw elephants while lunching :) The hospitality is top notch . The servers and staff here are so kind and helpful. The food was delicious. The menu was different each day and had choices for soup, salad, appetizer, main course, and dessert.. Very tasty meal each time. The tents are gorgeous. This was the first time we stayed in yurt tents. Very spacious and pretty. It is hot here in the afternoons. They gave us a giant fan. We did put bug sprays on while going out. The water We had hot water and electricity 24 hrs . They also have a swimming pool. We enjoyed getting cooled off in the pool in the afternoon.
