We loved spending time at the eco camp. The staff were friendly to both of us and especially to our two children. The mamas spent time with our daughter and sat and made jewelry, which she loved. My lad made friends with the former chief leki.(mainly chasing him round with his newly aqquired stick) ||Our main host saitoti was excellent, he was polite courteous and extremely helpful. ||The food provided by Jackson the chef was amazing.||We were lucky enough to experience the camp both whilst busy with guests, and with just us there, we stayed in the large house on the first night and moved to the elevated rooms the night after. They were both homely and cosy, but the elevated house had amazing views of Mt kilamanjaro, perfect first thing in the morning. The team provided very professional service. Apart from the normal hospitility experience we really felt included,I was sorting out the winch on my car by myself after having been stuck earlier in the day, it had wound up poorly and I was attempting to man handle it out to its full extent to rewind it onto the spindle when the lads from the camp turned up to help. I found this really touching and we shared a beer after around an hour fixing it.||||We spent most of our time on the safari park. But did try some of the organised activities.||||Jewelry making as mentioned||Campfire||And visit to masai Village. This was great and the kids loved it we walked from the camp approx 1km to the village where we were welcomed (in song) by the chief and the villagers then we looked at medicines, firemaking and inside the bomas. After this there was a market where you can by handmade items.||||All in all a fantastic short trip. With honest helpful and friendly staff. We will stay in touch and definitely visit again thank you for your hospitality...
Read moreWe would not recommend this place. Our Safari booked this hotel for us, and although the safari team themselves were very good, from the moment we arrived at the Lodge, we felt unwelcome. Like an inconvenience to the staff and team there. We were served meat twice (with no apology), despite telling them multiple times we are vegan, and the safari team confirming. We had food poisoning one night, which meant we had to cancel one game drive in the mornings. The food was very basic, with no additional drinks offered, only water, no soft drinks or alcoholic drinks - even on new years eve, nothing was provided or even mentioned to us, even though we were promised a celebration here. During the meals, the staff sat and watched TV in the same room, did not interact with us, and when we asked for anything, like more water, or to toast some bread at breakfast, we were offered a sigh of inconvenience. The room was pretty, but very basic, the bed was old and uncomfortable, just a foam mattress, and the hot water didn't work at all during our stay. The lodge is very far from Kimana gate entrance (about 30-40 minutes) and the last stretch is a very bad...
Read moreRoom downgrade without excuse or explanation - do NOT book the double room with shared bathroom! Our tour operator booked one of the cottages for us so they checked us in a cottage, and I have to say they are very beautiful. After 2 hours they said they gave us the wrong room and put us into the room shown in the photos and the difference was stark. Very small dark room. Community toilet and shower, the light in the toilet and shower did not function and the shower could not be closed. No power socket in the room. Shared sitting area with only broken chairs. A truly run-down, desolate place. We checked with our tour guide, he assured us he did not book this room so probably they overbooked and put us there. Also strangely all other rooms were empty (there are ~5 which share one toilet) even though online the eco camp is fully booked. If we had booked this room knowing it was very simple, okay. But relocating us from the cottage in this room is unacceptable...
