We have tent camped all over Africa for the past 7 months. We don't require a lot to be happy. This was absolutely the worst campsite we have stayed at. The place where we were expected to camp was essentially the parking lot. (No biggie for us) but the huge problem is that they do not clean the area at all and there are thorns EVERYWHERE. We spent 20 minutes trying to clean the area and when we woke up both of our mats were flat. The thorns punctured through our tent and thermarests in 7 different places. Then we tried to speak to them about our concerns the manager just walked away mid sentence. We had to stay an additional night, tried to patch up our mats and spent an hour cleaning an area with sticks. At no point did anyone from the camp (there were about 10-15 people working there) offer any help. We tried to call the office in Nairobi to complain and they said they would contact the camp. After calling them another 5 times they just kept saying they couldn't get ahold of the camp. We told them that we were not planning to pay $20 a night for camping when they did not clean the camping area. We told them we were leaving at 6:45 in the morning and to have the manager meet us at 6:15. The manager came at 7 and proceeded to argue with us saying that our mats and tent are very cheap in Mombasa to replace. (2 thermarests and 1 UL mountain hardwear tent) We argued with him for 30 minutes, gave him $10 and left. By which he basically spat at our feet when we walked away. If you do plan to stay there bring a tarp and...
Read moreWe we're brought to this camp by our tour agency without having being consulted (we previously agreed on another camp), so we didnt chose the camp by ourself.
The staff was friendly and the location nice, close to the park (you can spot some monkeys, squirels, impalas, bjrd). You could also make firecamp at night and sometimes enjoy mount Kilimanjaro view.
However the facility was in a bad status, by far the worst we had in kenya. The room didnt really protect from mosquito or cold night, hot water was not reliable and you could not avoid to flood the entire bathroom at each shower.
No wifi at all.
The food selection and quality was poor. Moreover, after 12 of travel of perfect health in Kenya I got sick in this camp probably because of the packed lunch (consisting in a sandwich with slices of tomatoes/cucumber and 2 boiled egs). I was not the only one in the camp to got sick.
The park is amazing, but better look for other...
Read moreThere's a mixture of cottages and tents. The camp has electricity throughout the day, unlike some others. The bed, linen and duvet were comfortable however the bed net was not a mosquito net it was made of 'net curtains'.||Also when we stayed the hot water shower wasn't working so we had to shower in another tent. In this tent, we felt the electrics had issues, you could feel a slight current in the shower knob.||Its understandable that in such a remote location there'd be such issues, and technical support is far away. So it's worth being aware and to prepare for scenarios. It's just about managing expectations. ||My suggestion would be to ask for the number of the cottage you're being given when you book so you know which one exactly it is (probably check photos) and can check nearer to the date that everything is in order.||Apart from that, the location is stunning. And the staff really...
