Mukima is a sanctuary. From the beginning till the end the house, staff and surroundings felt like a warm blanket. The house is absolutely stunning, even better than on the pictures. The garden and land around is too good to describe. If I could play the sound of the birds, the subtle breeze through the trees and show the colours of the flowers I would but it has to be experienced. The food is AMAZING!!! So fresh and nourishing. Uncomplicated yet surprising… the food I wish I made for myself every day. The massages were mind-blowing. I slept like a rock each night. I also recommend visiting Ol Pejeta with the guide for a day of safari and doing yoga at sunrise with view on the lake. My fav things are the soul and love you feel in everything and everyone, the old charm of the house, the food, the refreshing pool, the view on Mount Kenya and on the lake. I go home feeling refreshed from head to toe and body to soul.

This is a magnificent stone and wood house. Well built and stately. It made our tough strategic planning all that much easier to be doing, surrounded by such beauty and tranquility. The staff of the house, especially the housekeepers, are well trained, kind, polite and discreet - you barely see them outside of meal times. There really are no words that can adequately capture sitting by the fire on plush sofas, the tea in interesting kettles and caddies, or the sunrise... that heart-stopping sunrise is where novels begin... Now if only the food was consistent, it would've been perfect! Though, there is something to be said for the homemade lime and lemon sorbet! I could've had a whole pot of it!

We stayed in Mukima House for 5 nights to enjoy the place - perfect decision. Strong story. Beautiful nature, view of Mount Kenya, safe walking around the lake and forest. A lot of birds. Lovely large stone swimming pool and hot tube for chilly evenings. Amazing cuisine, really something special. Historical charm of the rooms and all the corners of the house. It is like museum but with life. Privacy. And finally, the people that take special care about the house and about you. You can visit Ol Pejeta or Mount Kenya National Park easily from the house. In case of rains, appropriate car is necessary for the road. We highly recommend staying at this place.

My father, wonderful stepmom, and I visited Mukima during an exceptionally trying time in our collective lives.||I have been so fortunate to have experienced some of the world’s most incredible hotels and locations. There’s a comparable drive for a very high level of service and attention to the buildings’ standards shared between those experiences.||Mukima Manor delivered that and more. Its lovingly restored architectural charm and well tended grounds, as well as the 100’s of acres of re-wilded bush, are a balm for the bruises left by the demands of modern day life. Mukima as a location and hotel stands comfortably amongst other exclusive boutique hotels.||However, it’s its people that make this place so incredibly special; Anna and Shawn are its soul - they are warm and inviting humans. Both are bright, engaging, and deeply passionate in their pursuits. Beyond the simple and elegant excellence of their tending to guests’ needs, they both find time to connect genuinely with the people in their care.||Their drive and passion shows in every little detail, from Anna’s brilliant talent for creating curated “moments” which are perfectly tailored (Sundowners and dinners in a different location every evening, complete with your preferred drink), to Shawn’s endless excitement for how things work and how to put vision into the world.||Anna and Shawn’s attitudes are so clearly infectious for those around them, as the whole staff is upbeat, supportive, highly competent, and welcoming. ||Specifically, Paul - whose eternal smile is so heart warming - has a real talent for being gently present and tending to your every need and Robin - he is just quietly brilliant at what he does - who was our driver and Safari guide. Robin has an incredibly good eye for spotting wildlife and getting you right into the action.||And there is a lot of action - many and varied conservancies to choose from. Solio (with its Rhino Orphanage) was a particular highlight for me personally; getting snuggles from a baby rhinoceros is not something one experiences every day!||What was, for me, a small part of a larger trip focused around time with family to say goodbye became an exceedingly special moment in our lives.||When leaving Mukima I felt such a deep sense of sadness and longing rather than the excitement for our next stop that I had anticipated. It took me some time to realize why:||How is it possible to feel homesick for a place and its people...

I hardly know where to begin, because words can’t quite capture just how magical our time at Mukima was. From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into another world — one filled with beauty, tranquillity, and the kind of thoughtfulness that turns a holiday into something truly unforgettable.

Every single detail was flawless. The house itself is breathtaking, perfectly set against the backdrop of Mount Kenya, and the gardens and grounds seem to hold a new surprise around every corner. Meals were extraordinary — delicious, fresh, and shared in the most beautiful settings. The balance of adventure and serenity was perfect: mornings filled with exploring, afternoons spent in peaceful reflection, and evenings under star-filled skies.

But what made the experience truly exceptional was the people. The team at Mukima are nothing short of remarkable. Their warmth, care, and attention to every little detail made us feel not like guests, but like part of the family. It’s a rare and special thing to find hospitality so genuine, and it’s something we will treasure forever.

Mukima will always hold an even deeper significance for us, because it was here that we got engaged. It still feels like a dream — to have one of life’s most important moments unfold in a place so extraordinary. Since returning to London, we’ve found ourselves telling the story again and again to friends and family, and every time we relive it, we are transported back to those incredible days.

Each memory — each meal, each laugh, each quiet afternoon — is etched into our hearts. Mukima is more than just a destination; it is a place that stays with you long after you leave. We feel incredibly privileged to have been part of its story, and we cannot wait to return.

If you are considering visiting, don’t hesitate. Mukima is not just somewhere to stay — it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will become...

My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful time at Mukima Manor. Our trip was made all the more special by the way we the team and Anna & Shawn looked after us and made us feel so welcome as if it were home from home. The rooms are beautifully done and the house offers all sorts of wonderful hideaways to relax or amuse yourself with games and activities. We made use of the tennis court and incredible massages nearly every day when not on safari. The team were great at suggesting an itinerary of safari outings and excursions which took the pressure off us deciding where to go and what to do. The food was five stars and so wonderful that everything comes from trusted local suppliers but mostly from the kitchen garden. The setting was breathtaking with views of mount kenya, a dam with wildlife wandering, and bird life that kept us entertained for hours. We felt incredibly safe and happy walking around their private fenced land which is so unique in such a wild landscape. As much as this is a hotel it feels like a home and very much a space that although shared with others, also felt super private. We also had a night in the forest den where the gorgeous donkeys came to say hello!! Amazing to wake up and feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees and nature. This makes for the perfect place for a retreat from the normal rush of life and a great way to Foch ones body mind and wellness. This place is honestly like something out of a romantic novel and I can’t recommend it nightly enough to others wanting to have some peace and relaxation whilst also exploring the beauty of the Kenyan countryside. I can’t not mention boo-boo and crumble the dogs - - wonderful company and great with cuddles. Very sad to leave and will...
