We enjoyed our stay in Sanctuary Tambarare on May 15-17 2023. We were warmly welcomed by the entire staff. Jackson, the manager, was very gracious and professional and made us feel at home. He showed us around the property and introduced us to the staff. We were lucky enough to be the only guests during this time so we already had a very unique experience but it was made even better with Jackson and the staff. In addition to Jackson we had the pleasure of meeting Anthony the head guide at Sanctuary and he shared with us his amazing knowledge of the area. We didn't book a game drive since we had a late arrival but Anthony offered to take us on a hike around the Sanctuary property. We can tell he is passionate about his job and we appreciated everything we learned from him. Despite us not booking our game drives through Sanctuary (see below), Jackson was very gracious to us and added the personal touch of sending us with warm bottles and heavy blankets during our early morning game drives. He didn't have to do this because we booked our game drives through Ol Pejeta but this is why Jackson and his staff are amazing.
During meal times, we enjoyed our time with the staff mainly George (the chef) and the wait staff ( Alfred and Joshua). They were very attentive to us without being intrusive and made us feel at home. The chef was very knowledgeable and cooked the most amazing meals you can imagine. He even accommodated our requests to eat local food and helped us sample traditional Kenyan cuisine. The rooms at Sanctuary are individual standalone luxurious tents and I would say it (being new) is the best place to stay at Ol Pejeta. It may be further from the main gate but I think we were further away from the other vehicles and felt more secluded. The tents were kept very clean thanks to the amazing room staff (Elizabeth, Wyclef, Peter and I am sure many others behind the scenes). Overall this was an amazing experience and I would return. People who I have mentioned above are the face of any operation and Sanctuary should be proud of them. It is because of the amazing staff that made us fell welcome and ensures our return.
I would recommend that guests book game drives directly with Sanctuary. Ol Pejeta is a conservancy area with multiple properties (where you stay and dine) within the conservancy. Both Ol Pejeta and the properties (like Sanctuary) provide game drives. It would have been more flexible to book the game drives directly with your camp so that your camp do not have to coordinate with Ol Pejeta's vehicles. Also Ol Pejeta's vehicles and fully enclosed and Sanctuary have open vehicles which are better for...
