This camp is just amazing. My family and I were treated very well during our stay. To start, this place is set in the Maasai Mara Preserve, so our tents directly overlook the plains and we frequently had animals roaming in and near the camp including giraffes, elephants, mongoose, and warthogs. We were always safe with guards constantly circling the camp and guiding us at night. They were especially accommodating for my quadriplegic family member, although it's worth mentioning that the natural-rock pathway that's around the reception and bar area was pretty rough for my wheelchair-bound family member.
In regards to the safaris from this camp, it's great. As I mentioned, the camp is right on the Preserve with views from some of the tents. The camp is in the Northwest corner of the Mara, so my family personally took a day to bring lunches and ate lunch on safari so that we could drive far into the Mara. The other days we just went out for a few hours and came back for lunch to rest.
In terms of complaints, there really is not much to complain about, but one thing is worth mentioning: the packed lunches I mentioned we brought on the safari one day. We had 5 people including the driver and they only packed enough food and silverware for 3 people. This was very upsetting as we didn't find out until we opened it hours away from camp. Besides that, there really isn't anything to complain about with this place.
In summary, this place is amazing for staying on the Maasai Mara and would recommend it to anyone, including...

Rooms - The “tents” are really big & more you could ask for from a tent in the middle of Safari. Unlimited filtered water in the rooms from a filtration tank system, and given a branded metal water bottle to reduce plastic waste. Animals walking through the camp. You can see elephants & giraffe walking on the horizon from the room. Hippos & warthogs grazing in the camp overnight, but feel safe with guards out 24/7.
Service - was wonderful. Everyone really friendly & accommodating. You have the same person for your duration, I.e waiter or drive guide, so get a personal touch & get to know them. Lovely little touches like to your door morning wake up coffee or tea, at the time you request before your morning drive, and a hot water bottle during bed dress down while you’re at dinner.
Location - 5 minutes drive from the landing strip, of which straight into seeing buffalo, elephant & hippo. Sooo many elephants, which is amazing! We saw everything over our 3 days (elephants, cheetah, lion kills, buffalo, leopard, giraffe, hippos, crocodile, warthog, gazelle, hyena, etc, etc.) except rhino. We did the hot air balloon at little governors, which was unreal. Instructor kept low at times to see all the animals in the river & trees, so it’s a mix of high panoramic views & low in the detail.
Honestly not sure what more we’d...
Read moreGovernors camp, on the banks of the Mara river, is a real treat to stay. The tents are very good and even have hot water and a shower. The amount and temperature of water coming out of the shower is highly variable but before you criticise it it's worth noting that it comes from a small wood fired boiler that is lit by the overnight guards at around 5.30am. Waking up to the aroma of burning wood is delightful and underlines the way the owners have tried to remain true to the 50 year old ideals. The animals are permitted to roam through the camp and one morning we had to divert from our normal path to give a young elephant a bit of space. Warthogs are all around and even have piglets in tow. They run around at very high speed just because they can. The banded mongoose family were a real treat. The staff were incredibly helpful and after a few days began to predict our requirements. The food was very imaginative and well prepared/presented. Wines and beers are very good and plentiful but we didn't drink much because it was too warm. The game drives were outstanding and we saw the big 5 (minus the leopard), the ugly 5 and many more. The lions were amazing and to see cheetahs made up for not seeing the leopard. I'd recommend it...
