In May 2023 I booked a 3-night safari and accommodations at Kicheche Mara Camp for a trip starting in July 2024. For context, my wife and I spent 6 nights at Kicheche Mara Camp and Kicheche Laikipia camp on our honeymoon in July 2022. I wanted to take my 83-year-old mother on safari, so I decided to book again with Kicheche Camps. Sadly, in August 2023 I learned my sister had been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer, and she would be undergoing grueling chemotherapy treatment and surgeries over the course of the next year. The clear, but painful decision was to cancel our Africa trip. My mother and I are devastated by the heartbreaking news of my sister, and crestfallen about our need to cancel our African safari.

I notified our travel agent in August 2023 of our need to cancel the trip and requested a refund of my deposit. The travel agent responded to the tragic news with compassion and complete understanding given the circumstances, and agreed to waive their cancellation fees. Our trip included 6 different accommodation/safari bookings (including 3 nights at Kicheche Mara Camp) across 4 countries in Africa. Our travel agent worked with the accommodations and safari operators to issue a refund, explaining to them our unique and terribly unfortunate situation. Ultimately, every accommodation and safari operator except Kicheche Camps refunded my deposit money. Even after the kind owner of the travel agency took a personal interest in our dilemma, and contacted Kicheche Camps himself to request they reconsider their decision, they continued to refuse to refund our deposit (approximately $1,700 USD).

For Kicheche Camps to refuse a refund to a repeat guest, giving 11 months advanced notice of cancellation, and knowing my sister is dying of cancer is cruel, and smacks of appalling greed. It would literally cost Kicheche Camps nothing to refund my deposit, as I am certain that our cancelled reservations would easily and rapidly be rebooked by other guests. Their decision not to refund my deposit is completely unforgivable, and exposes the owners of Kicheche Camps as lacking integrity and a moral compass. I am outraged and disgusted by their unconscionable insensitivity. It is absolutely deplorable that Kicheche Camps would willingly and knowingly profit from my family’s horrible misfortune and is beyond the pale of human decency. Kicheche Camp’s decision to hide behind a draconian no-refund policy shows they are devoid of the smallest shred of compassion, and nothing more than heartless,...

I don’t even know where to begin with how incredible our stay at Kicheche Mara North was. The entire staff was beyond amazing—genuinely some of the kindest, most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. I wish I could remember every single name because they all deserve to be recognized, but Makena and Charles stood out in a big way. They made us feel like family, and that’s not something I say lightly. Their warmth and sincerity were unforgettable.

I also fell ill during part of our stay, and the way the staff cared for me was nothing short of exceptional. They were genuinely concerned and incredibly accommodating—checking in on me regularly, offering special meals, and making sure I had everything I needed to be comfortable and feel better. It meant the world to me and really speaks to the heart and attentiveness of everyone at Kicheche.

And a very special shoutout to the team for graciously accommodating my incredibly picky husband and his extensive list of dietary requests and exceptions. Not only did they handle it without a hitch—they did it with a smile, every single time. That level of patience and flexibility is rare, and we’re truly grateful.

And Vincent—our guide—what can I say? He is simply the best. We specifically requested him again this time because he brought so much joy, knowledge, and fun to our experience on our last trip.

I remember laughing to myself on that first safari, overhearing other guests say it was their fourth or fifth time returning to the same camp. I couldn’t understand it—why keep coming back to the same place? I usually like to try new things. But now I completely get it. Every single day on safari is different, filled with new stories, wildlife moments, and magic. Kicheche makes it feel fresh, personal, and thrilling each time.

Also, can we talk about how this place is rated as three stars? That has to be a mistake. The tents are beautifully luxurious, the bedding is so comfortable, the water is hot and plentiful, and the service is on par with any top-tier resort I've ever stayed at. Kicheche Mara North deserves five stars across the board.

We can’t wait to...

I don’t normally provide reviews since I’d like to keep a private profile and do not participate in social medias. However, the “Exceptional Experience at Kicheche Camps” is an exception. My wife and I are celebrating Christmas with our daughter and granddaughter currently living in Nairobi and had the pleasure of staying at Kicheche Camps for two nights, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism by the entire team, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing short of extraordinary. The accommodations of the luxurious tents were incredibly comfortable and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect balance of luxury and immersion in nature. We were continually impressed by the impeccable service—whether it was the personalized attention during meals or the expert guidance on our safari excursions. The staff’s extensive knowledge of the local wildlife and their genuine passion for conservation made our safari experience truly special. Every detail was handled with care, allowing us to relax and fully appreciate the stunning surroundings of the Mara. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Kicheche Camps for making our stay so memorable. We highly recommend this wonderful destination and look forward to returning!

Stayed for a period of three nights and I cannot praise the Kicheche team enough! From our guide Paul (extremely passionate about wildlife and knowledgeable about the conservancy) to the staff (including Mackenna, Charles, Maurice, Andrew) the service level was always top notch which made the stay more memorable. The game drives were absolutely stunning - and an added benefit is the guide's help and focus to enhance the experience for guests that's come for photography - where animal life is plentifull and the guide has extensive knowledge of the conservancy. The tent was very spacious and had all the amenities needed - and of course one cannot beat the view that unfolded directly into the unfenced conservancy! There's absolutely no doubt that we will be visiting Kicheche Mara (and their other) camp again!

Fantastic 3 days at Kicheche Mara Camp. We stayed in the Family tent which had 2 bedrooms, a sitting room and 2 bathrooms and was very comfortable and well appointed. Showers were great which is important after many hours on game drives. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and helped us feel immediately at home. Several animals roam around the camp at night and we were excited to the “house” hippo on the walk back to our tent on the last evening. Food was excellent - did not expect to have beef wellington and cheese soufflee whilst on safari. Kids (11 and 13) who are the toughest to please rated it 10 out of 10.
