Ngari Hill Ecolodge — Hotel in Maralal ward

If you travel from Nairobi to Turkana, Maralal is a very convenient place to stay. So probably you will choose Ngari Hills Ecco Lodge to spend the night.|We arrive at Maralal at 6pm and drive up and up until we get to the top where the Lodge is situated.|There we are taken to a big cottage with a very high ceiling. |In a huge room you have everything - big double bed, a desk, an armchair on one side, and a bathtub, two wash basins on the other.|At first the idea of putting a bedroom and a bathroom together in one space surprised me. But as the loo was separate, I relaxed. There are many lamps there providing a rather dim light.|At 7:30 we have dinner in a restaurant with high ceiling again and very heavy chairs. Food was OK, we had soup, meat balls, mashed potatoes, vegetables, fruit.|Then we sit outside on a big terrace which offers a view but the light from the lamps gets right into your eyes. Will somebody please change their angle?|Electricity nonstop, wi-fi reasonable but not very stable.|The place is very QUIET so we have a perfect rest at night.|We get at 6:45, for breakfast we have juice and fruit, coffee, bacon, eggs and toast. Isn’t it everything you could wish for...|The two young men who look after the place are very polite and efficient.|At 8 o’clock we are ready...

Ngari Hill Eco Lodge is an incredible place to stay. We had a great time! There is a wide range of different cottages and rooms to stay. All are nicely decorated, very comfortable with warm duvet-covered beds, a hot shower and all are well designed by making us of local materials. Even camping on a beautiful location is possible as well as holding conferences. The dining room with an open fireplace, which is lit in the evening, is truly the best place to enjoy your meals and drinks. We enjoyed the home-cooked meals with fresh products from the area and the good selection of wines. The lodge staff is fabulous and supportive. Maralal is the place to experience Samburu culture, handcraft, history in the Kenyatta museum, stunning scenery around Maralal and great birdwatching of many different species, Wildlife is nearby in the forest and walking and hiking trips are attractive activities to undertake. It is an absolute place to wind down and relax. We are already planning our next visit!...

It was again a wonderfull experience. The lodges are built in a traditional African way and locaties with wonderfull views. And complete with good beds, toilets and showers. A few of them are also equipped with fireplaces. There are also tents to be rented and also equipped as the lodges.|It is also a destination which you can combine by visiting one of the nearby wildlife park in the Samburu area. |The staff was taking good care of us.|This time it was a very special trip because we joint a traditional Samburu wedding. All dressed in traditional clothing. The wedding lasted no less than 3 days and included different parts of the wedding each day.|And complete with approx. 40-50 morans. They were dancing for three days in a row. Truly incredible.|The temperature is during the day approx. 22-25 dgr. Celsius and 12-15 dgr. during the night.
