We recently stayed at Elsa’s Kopje for 3 nights and this was the most amazing start to our honeymoon! We arrived to the airstrip and were warmly greeted by our guide for the next days Mohammad. Even on the short drive from the strip to the hotel we saw the most amazing wildlife - a male lion, giraffes, elephants, to name a few! We arrived at the hotel to meet a friendly, welcoming team and taken to the most breathtaking room. The location was beautiful and the amenities in our room were fantastic. We were kindly looked after by all staff - with Frank, Judy and Charles being absolute standout stars during our stay! Judy’s massages were one of the best we ever had. The food was outstanding at every meal - we were very pleasantly surprised and the chef brought delicious and new dishes to the menu every day and night. The team laid out some beautiful bush breakfasts and sundowners for us, and made a real effort for our honeymoon. It was a real highlight to experience a special birthday song during our stay too! We couldn’t conclude our review without mentioning (and thanking) Mohammad, for being the most skilled and kind driver. His experience really made our trip special - really teaching us so much about the landscape and the animals, organising some incredible bush breakfasts, and also accompanying us on an incredible walking safari out in the bush and the best night drive where we ended seeing a pride of lions re-grouping for the night ahead. Mo really made each game drive amazing and we loved spending time with such a lovely guy. Meru park was also amazing, being so quiet every drive felt like our own private experience! Cannot recommend this place enough!

Overlooking the Meru is Elsa's kopje where where George and Joy Adamson lived with a group of lions, the movie "Born Free" which was filmed in the late 60's was all about them and the lions they rehabilitated and grew to love. Elsa was one of the beloved lionesses whom after the kopje is named. It is an amazing lodge. Great staff (extremely friendly, helpful and courteous) and amazing meals prepared by the chef. Breakfast, lunch and supper are all well prepared and any allergies, personal food choices are taken into account. As a side note ladies- my wife had an amazing massage at the spa overlooking the savannah as well. We had dinner under the stars, unfortunately my photos of the full moon could not do justice to the setting so I am not going to post any. Our guide for the drives, Moses, was very informative and knew his animals and birds. Very professional. We managed to see elephant, rhino, waterbuck, impala, baboon, giraffe and even an elusive leopard. There is a rock infinity swimming pool overlooking the valley and most of the rooms also overlook a watering hole where passersby include buffalo, elephants and giraffe. During the night we heard lions roaring and hyenas laughing. Where else do you get that?  Amazing!!!! Definitely a lodge to visit when coming to Kenya.

We went to Elewana Elsa's Kopje. If you are older, you would understand the story from the 1966 movie Born Free (movie about the lion Elsa). This is basically where the true story takes place so it was nice to visit this hotel given I had seen the movie when I was a kid. The service at this place was EXCELLENT as was the food. I have to say that the guides really made a difference in our experience at Elsa's Kopje. They have a swimming pool there but my kids said the water was FREEZING cold !!! :) At night time, you really cannot go outside your room due to the possibility of the local leopard which hangs around the area (you can go out but a hotel guide needs to escort you -- you are too tired after all the safaris to go out anyway -- I'm glad they were very concerned about everyone's safety at Elsa's Kopje. Special thanks to Joel and Mohammed for being such patient guides with us. You both really made our trip feel special (from the moment we got off the airplane to the moment we left on the airplane, you were always looking for something new for us to see)

We loved our stay at Elsa's Kopje. Our room, named after the Rojewero River, was close to the reception and lounge area but still felt very private and had the most incredible view over the National Park. We loved the huge, beautiful room with private deck and the indoor/outdoor feel where we could zip down the canvas sides while in the room (zip them back up to avoid monkeys getting into your things while you're not there). Shadrack, our house steward, did an amazing job keeping our room tidy and stocked. And the little geckos did a great job keeping the insects in the room under control (we didn't have any gnarly spiders or centipedes and the geckos keep to the walls). A fan in the room kept us cool during the hot nights. We loved having our morning coffee and tea while getting ready for the day, watching the sun turn the sky magical shades of orange and listening to the lions call to each other.||||Some other reviewers have noted ants - yes, there are ants but we only found them to be a nuisance in some areas and it was easy to avoid them - they weren't a problem in our room. It is the bush and so it just can't always be helped. I found it useful to tuck my pants into my socks sometimes.||||The food at Elsa's is remarkably good. The chefs are talented and inventive. We loved the fresh salads, fruit, and the dinner choices were all beautiful and delicious. Ephantus did a great job, setting us up with beautiful meals under the stars and making sure we had plenty of drinks to keep us hydrated. I also recommend Jenerase for a very invigorating massage in the most picturesque massage room ever!||||Our guide Moses was fantastic and we loved his thoughtful approach. He had plenty of books to dive into if you were curious and went above and beyond to show us tracking tips in the bush. We saw an incredible diversity of animals including the shy and elusive gerenuk up close! Although Meru is a National Park, we didn't experience the crowding of vehicles that can sometimes happen. We were often happily the only vehicle, sitting and watching lions lounge, roll, yawn and groom each other while sipping our sundowner drinks in awe. We saw huge towers of giraffes (18-22) quietly grazing together, and so many elephant families with tiny babies. With 13 year-round rivers, Meru has abundant and diverse wildlife and plant density!||||Grace, Allen, Jane, and Patrick took great care of us and we hope to...

We had the absolute pleasure of spending three nights at Elsa’s Kopje in Meru National Park as part of our honeymoon, and it was truly the highlight of our trip. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the warm hospitality, stunning surroundings, and the attention to detail that made every moment feel special.

Nehemiah, the manager is kind, thoughtful, and hospitable. He consistently went out of his way to check in with us, ensuring we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves, always asking if there was anything more that could be done to enhance our experience.

Our guides, Joe and Jentrol, were both phenomenal. Their deep knowledge of the park, wildlife, and the ecosystem made every game drive fascinating. We were lucky enough to see the Big Five, among countless other incredible animals, and their tracking skills and storytelling brought each sighting to life. They made the bush come alive in a way we’ll never forget.

The food was nothing short of outstanding. Every meal was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious – a true testament to the chef’s talent. The bush breakfast was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will always treasure.

The rooms are absolutely stunning – built into the hillside and rock, they offer a unique and intimate connection with the natural surroundings, all while being luxuriously comfortable. Waking up to the sounds of nature and breathtaking views from our room was a dream.

The entire staff was so warm, friendly, and welcoming – from the security team who made us feel safe and cared for at night, to the housekeeping and dining staff who were always smiling and attentive. Every single person made us feel at home in the most magical way.

Elsa’s Kopje is a truly special place – serene, wild, and full of heart. We are already dreaming of the day we can return. If you’re considering a stay here, don’t hesitate – it will be an...
