The iKWETA Country Inn is situated in a small street, in the center of the town of Maua. Maua can get very busy and noisy at times, but at iKWETA Country Inn we always felt peaceful and relaxed.|We spent 3 nights here on our safari to Mount Kenya, Samburu and Meru.||The hotel has a very welcoming reception, nicely decorated bar and restaurant, and a cosy green outdoor terrace next to the restaurant. Behind the building there is a very lush and green tropical garden with beautiful flowers, you really feel like you are out in a forest somewhere, while you are still in the centre of a busy commercial town. ||Rooms are fairly reasonably priced with a good bed and a nice shower with strong pressure and plenty of hot water.||The staff of the hotel, especially in the restaurant, are very helpful, quick and well trained. We enjoyed all our meals and although the menu is set, they were very flexible with vegetarian menu for my wife. Also the reception staff were helpful when we had issues connecting with wifi. ||To find the way to the hotel was difficult, as there were few road signs indicating the way to the hotel and it was difficult to see them on a busy road.||At this hotel you can book a trip with a local guide to the fantastic experience of the Nyambene Forest with its huge old trees and the Tuuru Water Scheme made by the Catholic Diocese of Meru and the local communities with its three wonderful manmade lakes giving water to the neighboring villages. Along the road we also saw the harvesting at some tea plantations growing one of the best teas of Kenya.||Maua is a centre for cultivation and trade in a special local produce, the miraa plant. For us it was interesting to see how it all works with the plantations, warehouses, logistics, transportation of miraa (qat). A unique local experience and definitely a part of the culture here.||We recommend iKweta Country Inn to all travelers to Maua and the nearby Meru...
Read moreI can't say enough about my stay, It was incredible! While in Maua I had a pretty busy schedule, but each and every night I got the best sleep. My room was cleaned like I wasn't even there the night before. And the staff was quite honestly like family. That is if you have a family that smiles every time you ask for anything and promptly satisfy your every need. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner was served right as they said it would and the over all ambiance of the hotel, the garden, and river that runs right through the property... It was breathtaking. My only regret was leaving... I miss the hotel and staff deeply. I'd definitely stay again if and when back...
Read moreI visited Maua with a group of friends in September. We stayed at the Ikweta Country Inn for 4 nights. It was my second visit at the hotel. Though it is a budget hotel with quite basic equipment in the rooms we were really delighted. All the staff (the ladies at the reception, bar, the cook and the cleaning ladies) were very nice and helpful. The hotel cook prepared delicious breakfasts for us which were served in a beautiful hotel garden. I can recommend the hotel for all those who are e.g. planning to visit the Meru Nation Park and are looking for accommodation with nice atmosphere at a...
