For those seeking R&R while on safari in Kenya, this is the place
I know, you can get rest and relaxation in a lot of places. Weelllll, that is not exactly what I had in mind; I was thinking Rhinos and Raptors, accompanied by the traditional two.
This luxury tent camp is nestled in an absolutely pastoral setting in the Lewa conservancy in northern Kenya and should NOT be overlooked.
Rhinos, both black and white, are the marquee players here. These animals are absolute beauties.
We saw five different species of raptors; some perched on stags of old acacia trees and many soaring on wing.
Lewa was the third stop on our current Kenya adventure. While we did not stay in the accommodations which housed William and Kate, we (i.e., my wife, a long-time friend and I) were treated like royalty by the entire Elewana Lewa team including:
Collins and Keen, the co-General Managers, who each took time with us EACH AND EVERY DAY, by our respective names, with the intent to ensure our stay was memorable and enjoyable,
George, our personal guide. George has been a guide in Kenya for over 20 years. With a naked eye, he can spot animals at loooong range that the three of us would struggle to locate with 8 x 42 glasses. George had complete command of the animals and birds within the Lewa conservancy. We felt immediately at ease with George. HE IS THE BEST. If you are going to Lewa, you REALLY should ask for for George to guide your party,
Maxwel and Robert took care of our culinary and beverage service. Within a day, each knew our preferences and provided attentive, personalized service. The three of us are fairly well traveled, the service we received here rivals much much tonier locales, FOR SURE, and
Lydia ... what a sweetheart. The three of us occupied two separate tents, with different schedules and preferences. With a smile, we were in her care for three nights as though we were guests in her home.
Special thanks to Sandy and her team at Hills of Africa and Andrea at Expert Travel who steered us to Lewa and the Elewana...

We trusted him completely to lead the way, and his instincts did not disappoint. Having him all to ourselves for most of our stay made the experience feel incredibly personal. Daniel’s insights added so much depth to our understanding of the wildlife and the ecosystem—we learned more than we ever expected.|Thanks to his guidance, we were fortunate enough to spot all of the Big Five, including a rare and thrilling leopard sighting. It was a highlight we’ll never forget.|Back at camp, the service and cuisine were exceptional. Every member of the staff was courteous, thoughtful, and genuinely accommodating. They went above and beyond to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary with a heartfelt song and a delicious cake—such a special touch that made us feel truly seen and appreciated.|The property itself is stunning, with beautifully maintained grounds and a tent that struck the perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort. Read moreMy husband and I were very fortunate to spend a few nights at the Lewa Safari Camp early this October. We loved being greeted upon arrival from each drive by staff with a eucalyptus scented washcloth to clean up with. The laundry service was great. My clothes possibly looked even better than laundering them at home. They even pressed them! We were also pleasantly surprised to have an in-room safe and hair dryer. Wifi in the room was also strong enough to facetime family back home and kept us connected. Our driver Alex did a nice job and is obviously very knowledgeable, even knowing latin names for most everything. We had exclusive use of the vehicle which was well worth the extra money spent. On our last day at Safari camp we were met by guides from Elewana WIlderness lodge to commence our 2 day walking safari. Rakita, Silas, & Nuur made this one of the most memorable experiences we've ever had. We spend 2.5 days walking in the bush with them and they are all just beyond excellent guides. I think Rakita could track an ant in a hurricane! They kept us safe and comfortable the entire time. I know I slowed them down some but it was still amazing! We walked about 6 miles a day and I got a blister the 2nd day. I took a vehicle to the airport for our departing flight and Craig chose to walk to the airport another 7.5 miles. We will certainly be back and asking for them on...
