The place is a truly beautiful. The white sandy beaches, manicured lawns and palm trees make it quite a sight. However, on the down side, the management seems to have a preferred clientele(I mean, even the instructions in the changing rooms are written in Spanish with no translation whatsoever). Apart from what I have read on most reviews, I've also heard it first hand from the locals there of how Kenyan guests are treated like trash and sometimes being sent away should they displease the "foreign guests". Not that I'm discouraging anyone to visit but should you do so, make prior arrangements with the management otherwise you'll be sent away. Fees charged for day visitors is ksh500. 1

This is a beautiful island. The establishment is lovely. But woe unto you who knows not their rules and makes the mistake of landing there without a reservation... I respect the managements right to admission but the wait staff are the most unwelcoming. They will talk down at you. Management will not be available when you politely ask... this for me, clear a case of house n****gas thinking they def better than the field n****gas(if you follow)!!!! CALL BEFORE. Fair warning, tell me if the service is good. Then I will go... Establishment treats locals like second grade citizens... SHAME !!!

Ooh I loved this place...white sand beach..Very clean. We were recieved by the owner which was wonderful..customer service was excellent and ...you have to pre order your food the day before. If you havent booked the day before you will not find something to eat but u will enjoy the beach. The number of people are limited which makes it pretty private. We arrived on a speed boat which is paid for differently. We ordered for ugali and other local food. I loved the food...loved everything about it...loved the place

Myself and my partner decided to go to Takawiri for a couple of nights and we looked at the reviews on TripAdvisor, there are only 2 resorts on the island, Victoria Sands and the Island resort. The first review I read, which misleadingly refers to the Island resort, had the headline " Food poisoning " so I only read a couple of lines and chose the only other resort, Victoria Sands. We made our booking at the Victoria Sands and regretted this decision after a couple of hours. We walked to the Island resort and we were greeted by a wonderful man called Danny who served us with perfection. The Island resort was absolutely beautiful with wonderful views and amenities. We went back to our hotel, The Victoria Sands ,after a couple of hours to be asked what we would like to order for dinner, this was at 4pm. Dinner was served to us at 8pm as requested, plates of mush that was obviously cooked in the afternoon and microwaved before serving. The so called manager spent the evening stretched out on a day bed in the middle of the dining area on her phone or sleeping while the hotel guests were looked after by incompetent staff. I decided to read the reviews completely and I noticed that the "food poisoning " actually refers to the Victoria Sands and NOT the Island resort! TripAdvisor please correct this as it is very misleading. I brought this to the attention of the proprietor of the Island Resort, a fantastic host called Kati while eating a freshly prepared lunch which was beautifully prepared and presented. So in conclusion I would urge anyone visiting Takawiri DO NOT go near the Victoria Sands, you will be...

On arriving at the Island there was no one to meet us when we got off the water bus as agreed, upon entering the hotel there was construction going on (felt like I have had taken a trip at a construction site and called it a holiday) the owner rudely ignored us when we asked to see the room upon probing we were told to wait for them to get the room ready, The service was so bad that our tour guide and friend missed the evening Water-bus and had to spend the night in the island which was okay with us. ||The pool was underneath the construction site so swimming there was out of the question, too many people in the compound (was a rather noisy holiday so we decided to stay in the room). However it was great swimming in the lake.||If I thought the food was bad at Victoria Sands I was wrong coz it got really bad got to a point we could taste fish in our breakfast sausages and Mandazi we eventually settle to having noodles for lunch we had bought at FoodPlus Kisumu, we tried having dinner and at that point all we were looking forward to is to leave that place. On our last morning the breakfast had improved and upon enquiring we were told that they had stocked up for fresh supplies the day before by then it was too late. Upon returning to Nairobi my daughter was sick all the way home all the way till Christmas and I was treated for food poisoning it’s up to after Christmas that I realised we both had food poisoning.||||However we took a long walk into the Islands it was really beautiful I would go back but...

I had a terrible, terrible experience here. This is me putting it mildly because I am less angry five months later. The unfortunate events that happened to us on Takawiri Island were so traumatizing. Never have I been made to feel uncomfortable about being Kenyan while touring Kenya - this was a first. ||||We were segregated to a certain corner of the Island and asked not to mingle with the rest of guests. We were neither supposed to walk around the facility nor go to the bar and restaurant. The plan was to have the crossover to 2021 on the Island so we arrived on New Year's Eve. We didn't even stay for long, maybe three hours max. After pitching our tents and complaining so much about the poor and disgusting treatment, eventually we were kicked out.||||Quite shockingly, we, a group of paying Kenyan citizens were curtly told to get off the island which is apparently "owned" by a foreigner.||The "real tourists" had paid for an exclusive experience which we were "disrupting and disturbing". Her exact words were, "get off my fu*ng island"||||Your Island?! I don't care how much you paid for it, please look around madam, you are in our country and not the other way around. The least you can do is...
