The pool: When we arrived the pool was dirty with lots of sand at the bottom. We decided to go in anyway but my boyfriend was stopped and asked if they could clean the pool before we went in. This took 20mins and we waited. The ladies changing rooms: there was a conference going on at the hotel whilst we were there, the changing rooms were located in the middle of the conference, the changing rooms were open no private cubicles and didn’t appear to lock. Upon leaving the changing rooms I was stopped by a man attending the conference who asked me questions, this felt odd given I was in a bathing suit and he was fully clothed. He left me alone when I told him my boyfriend was waiting by the pool for me. We felt the conference should have been away from the changing rooms/ pool area. Filming: the pool was next to a conference and they were filming right next to the pool. The camera wasn’t pointed at the pool but the pool didn’t feel private with the film crew right next to it. We stayed 1st Nov, the hotel was full of Christmas decorations. The security at the door is there for aesthetics only. They will insist you walk through a metal detector but they don’t check your bags or jackets which could be carry anything. Better to either not have the security or do it properly. The toilet is behind a blurred glass in the room so not a separate ensuite - you can hear everything and see through the top. The door for the shower and toilet didn’t fully close.
Positives Breakfast was great loads of options hot and cold. Lots of fruit and variety. We went to the Carnivore restaurant which is part of the hotel. This was a good experience and is quite fun. Tried crocodile. Very nice staff. Would recommend. Large bed, aircon worked well. We had a good sleep.
We did not raise the issues above to any staff whilst we were staying there, we did speak to the manager at the end of our stay. Nothing was offered to us. They did ask if we would stay again to make it up to us, unfortunately we don’t want to go back. All staff were polite, most of the issues we raised need to be resolved by the...
Read moreI would have given more stars but was disappointed by very unprofessional behaviour on the last day when upon packing I couldn't find my passport. It was in the middle of the night and was leaving at 5am,but instead of getting sleep I spent over an hour looking through everything to locate my passport and being very stressed about my departure from Kenya without a passport and visa and going through my days wondering when it could have been displaced or stolen. I called reception who brought security who opened the safe and it turned out the cleaning staff had locked it in there without telling me. I understand they thought it was helpful but I find it a very serious issue to have removed my important personal items without my consent and without providing information. I left for the airport in the middle of the night and could have very easily just left without the passport - seeing the room was empty and thinking it was in my bag. I would then have missed my flight and had lots of inconveniences. This practice of not informing guests about moving their personal and important items is very unprofessional and an infringement oon personal belongings. I have travelled a lot in many countries and in Kenya and I have never experienced this practice by hotel staff. The security person just laughed out loud when I said I was not happy about what happened and said "we thought you went on safari" (?? As if that we would justify not giving information?!) Tamarind is a nice place w lovely food (minus though for no fridge in room and no ac in gym making it very uncomfortable to work out there) - but above experience ruined my impression of the place and I will not recommend...
