Over the weekend I had the opportunity to visit Mount Kenya Leisure Lodge and would like to offer a review.||We drove about 4 hours on the busy Nairobi - Nanyuki road and branched off right at Naro Moru town and approximately 2km stretch on paved road we arrived at the lodge entrance. ||The lodge is located on the foothills of Mount Kenya some 300metres away from Mt Kenya park gate. It was a beautiful sunny day and due the dry spell being experienced now, the beautiful green lawns were starting to dry. The weather offered a perfect opportunity for us to dust off in the swimming pool after the long drive.||We were warmly received by Peter, the receptionist who offered a nice cup of tea as we checked in. Check in was pretty fast before we drove to our room located on the original block behind the reception area.||The room was spacious overlooking the forest and into the valley to River Tugithi. The room was spacious and warm with water bottles tucked in the king-size bed for the night. It has 24hr DST Channel. The bathroom area is adequate though the shower area is a bit squeezed. The balcony area offers nice setting for a private meal.||Public Areas||For those looking for family retreats, private parties, conference facilities (up to 200 pax) and team building activities, no doubt Mt Kenya Leisure Lodge has it all.||The block with 4 cottages with adjoining rooms offers the ideal accommodation for families. They have a mix of twin and double beds and extra bed in a smaller room for kids. They have a common washroom and bathroom facilities.||The huge parking and expansive lawn garden provides desirable reception for weddings and private parties. The conference hall can easily be converted into an entertainment centre for big groups.||In my view Mt Kenya Leisure Lodge has one of the best Team Building Facilities I have ever come across. Apart from trekking to the Mt Kenya, their bush facilities such as the Challenge Wall, Trust Fall, Spider Web and test of balance logs are among the most exciting and challenging facilities you will experience. Of course for field activities they can facilitate or you come with your own facilitator. ||There is a new block of 56 rooms which is partly opened as they do final fittings on the rest of the rooms. It has spacious rooms with nice wooden tiles finish and balconies overlooking the forest and River Tugithi. Bathrooms are big with nice fittings to detail.||The campers have not been left behind either. You can bring and pitch your own tents in the open ground, or better still hire from the lodge at a reasonable fee. You also have a choice of camping dormitory tent of up to 50 pax that doubles up as hall. The lodge provides a separate kitchen and bar for those camping where they can bring and cook own food.||At the far end is the original block of 16 rooms with dining room and bar lounge. The rooms are well appointed with good bathroom facilities.||The lodge also provides ablution facilities for descending mountaineers who just want to freshen up and proceed on with their adventure.||The chef offered some grilled chicken and tasty lamb garnished with roasted potatoes with some side source for dinner. They have various bush dinner sites depending on the size of the group. That evening from our balcony we got a glimpse of another couple enjoying their bush dinner meal below the forest. Apart from dinner they offer bush breakfast and sundowner by the pool side. We were treated to an English-style breakfast with cereals, fruits, toasted bread eggs, bacon, juice and coffee. ||I reckon, Mt Kenya Leisure Lodge is an all round facility and a perfect retreat for individuals and groups because it has something...
Read moreAugust 10th - 12th 2018 was great for me and my family. We visited this beautiful Lodge and stayed in one of the cottages that had two bedrooms though there was a bigger building with rooms, not cottages. The kids stayed in one that had two beds and together with my husband we took the other bedroom. We had a nice fire place and since it was a cold month the hotel staff were very wonderful and they provided firewood and made fire for us every evening and taught us to make fire which my hubby did every morning. They also provided very nicely brewed tea in the evening to keep the cold away.............ooooh and the hot water bottles for everyone, every night was a welcome extra. The towels were changed every day and neatly displayed on the beds. The food was also excellent and since there were no many guests in the hotel, we had a la carte and the food was always freshly made as we ordered.........i loved the lamb and buttered spinach. They had large, well manicured grounds where we took long walks. A beautiful swimming pool that the kids couldn't resist despite the chilly weather. We also had a nature walk in thier team building grounds down till the river whose source is Mt. Kenya. The clear, crystal water plus we got souvenir pebble (each one of us picked one from the river). Oh and they also have cows and goats where they got their milk...we actually met a mother got and new born...
Read moreI recently stayed at Mt. Kenya Leisure Lodge as part of a trip to build a women's resource center in the area, through Edge of Seven. Much of the stay (2 weeks) we had the hotel to ourselves. My room had a "Juliet" balcony looking at the gardens and was wonderful. The treat each night was the hot water bottles in the bed to provide warmth and help with the aches and pains of construction.||||The staff was wonderful! Stephen at the bar quickly learned each of our preferences; Christopher, our server at meals, was attentive, friendly and a great server. The food was good, and they catered to our specific requests.||||Amos, the manager, and Peter, the owner, were always on site to assure that all needs and requests were met.||||There is a new building that will be finished in a few months, that will provide amazing views into Mt. Kenya National Park and of Mt. Kenya. ||||This was a very relaxing place to stay. We were able to walk to nearby shops and meet the locals, and schoolchildren.||||I was traveling alone (single occupancy) as part of a group put together by Edge of Seven.||||They currently don't have Wi-fi but are working on it. There isn't ready access to wi-fi in the area, so it's taking a bit of time. For me, it was nice to be...
