After spending a lot of time in Africa, I wouldn't recommend staying here. The staff were extremely cold and unkind and the entire place had weird vibes.
The main issue though, is that we both got sick during our stay, my partner quite seriously so. Likely this was from the food or water, as we didn't consume anything from the outside and are always extremely careful with hygiene when traveling. It's the first time something like this happens to us despite being experienced travelers.
My partner was basically locked in the main house's bathroom until late at night. Instead of asking if he was okay or needed help, the owner and staff were subtly pressuring us to go back to our tent so they could close the house and go home. My partner had to spent the night in the dry outdoor toilet instead and we still paid for the two extra nights we spent there because of it.
They didn't even acknowledge the fact that it could've been their kitchen's fault, instead implying that we probably brushed our teeth with tap water or eaten something bad from the outside (we didn't). They seemed more concerned with avoiding responsibility than making sure their guests are comfortable and cared for.
I asked the staff for bottled water, because we became dehydrated from the sickness and no longer trusted the water they had (which they promised was filtered), but they apparently don't keep any in the house. When I asked if they had medicine or drinks with salts and minerals, one of the staff ladies said they usually just give bulbine and Coca-Cola to sick guests (which has no proven medicinal value). Also made me wonder how often this happens.
And to conclude everything, they charged really expensive for laundry and still lost some pieces of our...
Read moreWe stayed here on recommendations of friends but it was even better then expected. We stayed for 3 nights with our 2 kids ( 10 and 11 yr) and felt so very welcome. Petra had proposed an agenda but this was adapted the whole time to improve even our experience. Paul, the excellent driver/guide picked us up in Nairobi, brought us to the elephant orphanage and than to Sendai were we were served an excellent dinner. He also did one of the safaris with us and the way he interacted with the kids was a real pleasure. Food is important for our family and we were really spoiled with 3 excellent meals a day including aperitif and desserts. The picnics were amazing and we had all we needed to feel in a movie. Add with this a very warm host and her family and we felt really at home. Our son got even a gift for his birthday! We really enjoyed the horseback riding ( the reason we stayed in this place) , but our daughter was a little too young to ride among the wildlife so we all decided that we will have to come back to stay here and to take one of they multi day safaris to the other parks. We stayed in a little house with an open fire. Internet and electricity was very limited but even the kids didn't ask to play with their iPad: they preferred the board games or to learn to...
Read moreSandai is well-being from the very first minute. After a warm and hearty welcome, you feel at home. The charmingly furnished farm house radiates warmth and cosiness. We spent a few days in one of the self-catering houses. Homely and cosy houses where you don't miss anything. Except maybe a little bit of civilisation ;-) The houses are equipped with solar power - but you can always charge your devices in the main house. Everything is spotless and well-maintained.
If you are lucky, you will have a view of Mt Kenya from your terrace - unfortunately, during our stay it was in the clouds most of the time.
The location is excellent for excursions to the Aberdares and a visit to Solio or Ol Pejeta. From Sandai you can also go on a safari to Samburu/Shaba/Bufallo Springs for several days.
Although we were self-catering, we ate at the main house one evening and enjoyed it very much. We were treated to some delicious food and ended the evening cosily by the fireplace. The perfect place to share the day's experiences.
All in all, the perfect place to explore central Kenya or just unwind and find yourself again. When you leave, you get the feeling of leaving friends behind.
Conclusion: 100% recommendation and we will...
