Never been so disappointed by any hotel anywhere. Our room 11 is a lovely room but oh dear, it and other parts of this hotel have been neglected for too long. I haven't the energy to type the whole list but here are a few issues. Our bathroom had double basins with mixer taps with no H or C on the taps, so tried the right hand on both, which did produce water but not hot and then the left taps, which didn't produce water at all. On day 2 of our stay two boys spent most of the afternoon in our bathroom, when all we wanted to do was have a siesta. They managed to fix one of the mixers but couldn't the other because it was rusted solid. Our bedroom had a wardrobe with a large mirror on the door, which was cracked in half. There was a small kettle which never switched off and when you came to pick it up, you burned your hand on the handle - it was replaced. The wifi constantly failed. One of the towels in the bathroom was shockingly dirty. and I mean, shockingly. I could go on but I won't. All the duty staff were involved with our stay and endless conversations were had with them. The manager was "away in Nairobi" but I was told he wanted to see me when he returned. Twice this was promised but by the time we left, he had not appeared. On departure I was promised he would email me but he never did. By way of recompense for our endless issues, our one dinner and a small laundry bill were waived but it completely missed the mark for what had been through. This is NOT a...
Read moreI went here for the restaurant, a short walk away from where I was staying. I'd like to start by saying, the service I received was impeccable, very attentive and quickly taken care of. Granted I was the only guest they had. I was sat in the corner with the view of the ocean. It was beautiful. Titus was a superstar. He was such a friendly and informative waiter. I received my drinks in a timely manner. He informed me of the extra charges for any extras I wanted. I appreciated the heads up. Now the food... It was hot, the chips looked and tasted fresh they just needed some more seasoning. The Calamari was a let down if I'm honest. It was just alright, the flavour was really lacking. It definitely needs to be seasoned better. Maybe a new way to batter it, they were crispy just not flavourful. I ordered Tartar sauce on the side to have with it. The Tartar sauce is so good on its own. The Calamari just lacks in Character. The homemade chilli sauce is also...

The staff went above and beyond to be helpful, and all were impeccably polite and professional. The menu and standard of food is exceptional, serving both vibrant Pan-Asian, European, and, of course, stunning Swahili cuisine.
The rooms are spacious and well renovated, while retaining the authentic architectural charm of historic Shela. The location is perfect for pottering through the winding streets of Shela, but also offers a calm retreat overlooking the ocean (worthwhile waking up at 6am to catch a glimpse of the stunning sunrise on your doorstep). We were lucky enough to snorkel with turtles and whale sharks, which was a magical end to our incredible week in Lamu.
Could not speak more highly of the wonderful staff working here. I cannot wait...
