I went here expecting a great holiday trip only to return with a distressing experience of being robbed by a group of beach boys armed with everything from small knives to huge machetes. ||||I started from the hotel to go for a short snorkeling trip, but about just 150m from the hotel a group of beach boys approached me. There are usually many fishermen around all the time, and the hotel staff said they are nothing to worry about, so I didn't pay much attention to them, besides the hotel was in sight so there was no reason to predict a mugging. They started asking for money and suddenly pulled out knives and machetes. They placed the machete at my neck and pulled away my camera, snorkeling gears and slippers/ shoes. Terrified, I ran as fast as I could back to the hotel and on the way stepped over several sea urchins since I was bare-foot.|| ||I had expected the hotel would help me get things under control but they only went to make matters worse. I reported the situation to the hotel staff who took no immediate actions to either help me or alert the other guests on the beach. One hour later I finally met the manager and asked to file a police report. Instead of assistance I received a long list of irrelevant questions and ultimately no help. The hotel avoided a police report as much as possible and also made no effort in finding the stolen items. I also came to learn there are no guards patrolling the immediate beach areas or any other forms of security from the hotel; once you are out on the beach you are on your own.||||Apart from the non-existent safety, the hotel has horrible and over-priced food, and not many activities to keep you or your children engaged. I also had a rough experience with the rooms (cottages) where my AC stopped working the day I arrived and was not fixed until I left (four days later). This place used to be much safer a few years ago, but apart from safety everything else I have mentioned has been the same from as long as I have been coming here (which is almost three years now), and will probably never change. Over the years I have learnt to carry my own food and water (because salty water from the taps is useless even for cooking) and the only reason i used to come here was because the area has mind-blowing marine life. But the poor management and lack of safety makes this place best to stay away from. If you really want to see the coral gardens I suggest you stay at Diani and come here for a day trip – it should be approx. 20 to 30 minute boat ride. ||||It is NOT worth the...
Read moreThis hotel is a complete disaster. Just keep off. You will never regret. It has potential to become a good place but clearly the owners don't care. We arrived on Friday 16. The gate gave me the first hint we were entering into a disaster. The gate keeper kept us waiting for at least 5 minutes and when he came out, he was rough with our tour guide. The ground is unkept and over grown with weeds and unkept grass. We had booked and paid through a travel agent but the receptionist had no clue. She asked me to produce a voucher or Mpesa evidence that we had paid. I asked her to check in her system. She couldn't find anything there. So I gave her my documents and she asked if she could keep them. I said, no make a copy, she did. We were in. Now we had to wait for someone to show us to the rooms. We waited for 10 minutes and finally someone came along. The room had a faded door and rusted door lock. The porter struggled for five minutes before the door creaked open. The paint works on the wall was falling off in some parts, the toilet was stained and the toilet paper holder was broken. There was no telephone or any written information about the hotel. WIFI doesn't exist in the rooms. No fire escape advise. There were cups to drink from. But no coffee or sugar or even a kettle to heat water. The curtain in the shower is too short, so water splashes on the floor and one can easily fall. Breakfast was scheduled for 7.am we arrived for breakfast at 7.00am. It wasn't ready at 7.00 or 7.10 or 7.15. We had enough and said Please Cancel our booking and let's be gone. They said no, our cancellation policy doesn't allow any refund once you have checked in. Could you please transfer us to your sister hotel next door? No. They have a different Account. So we're stuck here for six days. Please just save yourself...
Read moreHillpark (Capricho/Maweni) is a great place if you are looking for a beach without beach boys or anyone bothering you!||||The cottages are falling apart - the air conditioning units have all be taken out and TV's. The one we stayed in does not have screens so you cant leave the windows open cause of the monkeys. The cottage does not lock so that is always a worry and most of the taps/showers dont work right. It is a place for those who like to "rough" it - a step or so up from camping :)||||The grounds have not been kept up - once again - I am sure they have been hit hard tourism wise because of COVID.||||We come for the beach, peace and quiet - so was not excited to have loud music playing till 4am last night and again today - I enjoy pool side with the birds singing, my kids talking and laughing and the sound of the waves....||||They gave us a great price on the rooms and cottage (my adult kids stayed at Amare Hillpark)||||This place could be awesome if they would invest in the buildings - so much potential..... the ocean is amazing as well...
