Mount Elgon Guest House — Hotel in Trans-Nzoia County

VERY comfortable beds and top notch service! Orlando the manager/chef was most welcoming and produced excellent meals. This is a great base for exploring the surrounding area. The guest house has stunning views of Mount Elgon and the building has unusual and attractive architecture - two interlocking circular buildings - one with the entrance and bed rooms - facing a central courtyard and rondavel; and the other the dining room, kitchens, and an upstairs guest lounge. It is located on a large rose and avocado farm which exports to Europe using their own refrigerated trucks to deliver the produce to cargo planes and sea containers, which maintain an end-to-end chilled supply chain all the way from farm to customer. There is also an extraordinary philanthropic community enterprise on the farm, encompassing a fully functioning hospital; and a vocational training centre to give local people skills for employment, including IT, engineering, blacksmithing, carpentry, bricklaying, nursing, tailoring for employment. Last weekend we visited Mt. Elgon Guesthouse and were surprised about the quality and all it had to offer. I would say that 'Guesthouse' does not cover it, but is is more a Boutique Hotel style. The rooms are very well furnished and spotless and the attention to detail is special. From the laundry bag to lighting, it all connected somehow. We not only loved the accommodation, but the activities made it truly special. We got a tour through the local community project, made a hike into Uganda, had a barbecue on a dam with a great view and got a tour in the nearby rose farm. An...
