Remote has beautiful views, and the nicest architecture around -- but our stay was cut short by the bad service.
When we saw the photos, we knew we had to visit -- iconic houses, on a remote beach, with a spaceship restaurant -- this looked like the perfect recovery day in the middle of some outdoor activity at Issyk Kul. We booked one of the two available houses with a double bed. Upon our arrival in the early afternoon, one of the owners greeted us, and told us that unfortunately, the double bed wouldn't be available -- she had arrived with her family and they'd be using it, so we'd get one of the houses with twin beds instead.
We had hoped for a cozy stay in this nicely-designed space, and weren't overly enthused, but went with the change. The owner offered us some tea (which was nice) and watermelon, we settled into the house and got a shower. A while later, a thunderstorm passed over, so we went to the spaceship restaurant to watch the rain.
Around that time, we realized that we were the only guests in the place, and started to have this feeling that we'd just interrupted a family's day at their lake house: The website had promised a restaurant with lounge music, drinks and food -- instead of a restaurant, we felt as unwanted +1s in a private lake house, instead of lounge music, we got the sound of the older kids playing on the family laptop while the nanny was attending to the cries of the youngest, and instead of food and drink, our host was sleeping on the only menu around at the table next to ours.
Once the father had awoken again, we asked for a drink from the menu, only to be told that they didn't have any of the ingredients around. We settled on an alternative, and he vanished for some 20 minutes, while we felt more and more awkward, apparently intruding on a family's day off.
When our drinks arrived (with no garnish at all, stale tonic water, in dirty glasses), we told our hosts that this wasn't really what we had expected our experience at Remote to be like, and that we were considering not staying the night, they disappeared to the kitchen without comment.
We'd spent the night before at a guest house nearby. For a quarter of what Remote charged, the guest house came with a clean ensuite shower with good water pressure and a way nicer washroom. We left Remote and stayed in a glamping tent on a beach a few miles farther east instead. For a bit over half the price of Remote, it came with a big cozy bed, a great view of Issyk Kul from the tent, and an ensuite shower.
Remote is a really nice architectural concept and looks great in the pictures. But the alternatives around are cozier, have better showers, and feel way...
Read moreReally Disappointing. We wanted to splash out for a special night during our honeymoon in Krygyzstan. For $160 USD per night we had high expectations.
The setting and the cabins are beautiful but the service and atmosphere was really poor. The bar was poorly stocked so we had limited options for drinks, the main restaurant was full of used plates when we arrived and which weren’t cleared up all afternoon - lots of flies. The host had her computer set up there so you felt like you were relaxing in her office. The cabins are amazing but the bed sheets don’t fit the bed and the pillow was lumpy. Very Poot night’s sleep. The heating also didn’t work.
Dinner was an additional $15 per head. Soup was nice but chicken was really tough. Breakfast was OK, but doesn’t include coffee so you have to pay extra. When paying $160 a night (by far the most expensive place we stayed) you’d expect a $2 coffee with breakfast. Particularly as the transfer to get there is so expensive.
The setting however is amazing, and you do feel very remote with beautiful skies at night. With the right service, this place could be amazing, but we felt like a commodity rather than valued guests....
Read moreWe travelled from Bishkek to remote forgotten river ( it truly stands for its name as we we’re literally forgotten in all ways)
If you are planning ti visit this place please try to reach the spot before sunset as the way to the place can be really hard.
Highly recommend suvs to reach this place , all vehicle can go but suv will be a smoother ride.
The hosts we are very welcoming and explained as about the property very well.
The dinner ( extra payable) and the breakfast ( included in the room rate) was very good.
We are on the worst possible day on this place as the water was frozen but the hosts really took care of us and made it enjoyable stay.
The best views are on the sunrise and you will feel worth the all dollars you pay them.
Overall, highly recommend this place and please check the weather...
