I recently stayed at Tunduk Hostel and had a fantastic stay. A very homely, warm place to stay. I totally understand why it is rated so highly. Shared and private rooms available.
I also booked a 3 day tour with Tunduk Travel and they thoughly deserve ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Even though my booking was very last minute, Azema managed to accommodate all my requests. Welcoming, friendly and organised are some words to describe the staff of Tunduk Travel.
I requested outdoors adventure with hiking. Not an easy request to deal with because I was only visiting for a short time frame. However, every detail was taken care of and we managed: 🚙 Airport collection / driver / guide 🥾 Hiking in Konorchek Canyon 🛖 Yurt Stay at Issyk Kul Lake ⛰️ Ak Sai Canyon 🥾 Fairy Tales Canyon (Canyon Skazka) 🏔 Trekking to Jeti Oguz Waterfall 🏨 Karakol accommodation 🥾 Karakol Gorge 🧖🏻♂️ Thermal Springs to allow for legs to recover after hiking
All this, and the tour was the most reasonably priced that I found.
I asked for adventure and got this x100. It was April, turn of season, and the snow was falling so we were the only ones walking to some of the sights. My guide navigated the snow and weather with ease. My tour guide was interesting and knowledgeable about culture, history and life in Kyrgyzstan. He shared many stories which offered great insight. He also knew the best places for coffee on the tour, these small details really make a difference 👌🏼
What I really love about Tunduk Travel is that it is 100% a family run business. Highly highly recommended to anyone look to explore Kyrgyzstan!
I'll be back again for sure! Thank you Tunduk Hostel and Tunduk...
Read moreWe stayed for 10 days at the end of May, which seems a perfect time to visit Bishkek. The room was magnificent and we shared a bathroom and toilet with just one other room in our annex, so no inconvenience at. The setting was calm and soothing with a beautiful garden and kang to relax in, which I imagine will be lovely to while away summer evenings on, when the days heat up. Because we stayed more that 7 days, a free breakfast was thrown in with the price. It was magnificent: fried eggs, omlette, pancakes to start, followed by different kinds of fruit, cake, butter, home made jam, cereal, coffee/tea, bread, cheese and local salami, and salad!! Absolutely no room for lunch after all that!!||The family that run the hostel are quiet and unassuming, but extremely helpful and friendly. The owner even gave us a lift to the mountain park Ala Archa one day...amazingly kind of him to do that!||The pool opened when we arrived. More a dip pool than for serious swimming, but good for cooling off during the summer. For anyone who needs to know the length of the pool is 6 meters...not really enough to break a sweat, but there are other pools in the city for more serious swimmers.||The hostel is a little far out of town. Walking into the centre took us an hour, but if you walk the opposite direction towards the mountain, a ten minute walk will take you to a wonderful covered bazar and a weekend flea market. Busses into town are very convenient and stop newr the hostel. Therr is also an exotic trolley bus route number 17 which takes you directly into the centre.||All in all a definite highly recommended place to stay. Thank you for a...
Read moreAfter 4 years of full-time traveling, I’ve come across hostels that truly feel like a home away from home — unfortunately, this wasn’t one of them.
There’s a 1000 som fine if you spill water outside the shower, an extra charge if you want to leave your backpack after check-out, and another fee if you’d like to stay and relax in the common areas while waiting for a late flight. Thankfully, the kind women at reception let us stay a few extra hours for free — but only because it was off-season — and we still ended up spending 10 hours at the airport waiting for our flight.
The rooms were clean, but the mattress was completely worn out with a dip in the middle. The shared bathrooms were clean, which was nice, but for 2200 som per night, I expected a bit more — especially considering the hostel is a bit far from the city center (though buses run regularly).
Besides the friendly women working at the front desk, the rest of the staff felt pretty grumpy and unwelcoming. I’m not sure if that’s just a cultural thing or specific to this place, but either way, I wouldn’t choose to stay at Tunduk Hostel again if I return...
