It’s rare to want to write a review about a hotel even before you’ve checked out. Green Yard is definitely one to put on that list. Known for the best spread of breakfast in Karakol, it promises treats that are imaginable only in children’s fairytales and Enid Blyton books. ||Moist cakes and that even includes a chocolate cake for breakfast, cheesecakes, apple crumble and strudel; pancakes served with a variety of jams ranging from raspberry, strawberry, cherry, plum and apricot; Syrniki (pancakes filled with cottage cheese); cheeses, breads, local honey, meats, eggs, porridge, fresh fruits like raspberries, plums, grapes, apples and apricots; coffee, tea and cereal served by the friendliest of staff makes it one of the best breakfasts I have come across. It is also what the hotel has come to be renowned for. ||The rooms and bathrooms are clean and the lawns are full of fruit-bearing trees and flowering shrubs. ||The owner comes to each table every morning and makes sure the guests are well looked after. The attention to detail is unmistakable. It’s usually a short stay in Karakol before and after treks but what an absolute joy. Definitely stay here and make it an experience...
Read morePros: breakfast is delicious. It was very filling and nutritious before our big hike. rooms are clean and spacious, and the grounds are well taken care of. front desk speaks good English
Cons: WiFi connection is very poor. We had to come down to the ground floor and sit right next to the router to get any signal. the staff and the owner weren’t the most flexible / accommodating people. There were 8 of us and they didn’t want to accept a payment via credit card and were insisting on cash only. We didn’t carry this much cash with us and it took a long time to get them to agree to accept our credit cards. the way they charge for laundry is very arbitrary. The front desk person picks up your bag and assigns a price. One of my travel companions gave the same bag to her before and after the hike and was charged different amounts. One bag of laundry costs almost as much as the room for the night (2,000 som for laundry vs 2,600 for night) breakfast is included but if you order dinner, it’s 1500 som per person which about twice as expensive as you’d pay at Karakol’s more expensive restaurants it’s a 20-25 min walk from city center so might need...
