I feel bad giving this hotel such a poor rating as the room itself was clean and a comfortable stay apart from the eerie feeling it leaves you with. |This hotel was ok for what we needed it for, a night in the border town before moving on. |The hotel is about 20 minutes from the main town but the hotel do offer a free shuttle service so that you can go there for dinner and arrange a time to be picked up again. If they didn’t offer this you would be truly stuck. |The hotel staff were very nice, only spoke little English but enough to get by.|We booked this hotel as we got a really good deal that seemed too good to be true and after staying we understood. I dare say it’s probably more comfortable than most in the town but it’s by far the strangest place we have ever stayed. We couldn’t understand it and reading the other reviews I think everybody seems to feel the same. You feel like you a detective that wants answers when you stay here, a grand hotel but it’s completely dead. I’m pretty sure we were the only ones staying there, the duty free shop was full of goods but padlocked up, the mini market was closed and had been emptied, the restaurant was only open for breakfast (which was terrible, the greasiest most awful tasting English breakfast I have ever been presented with) and the casino in the distance looks closed. |I don’t know what the deal is on this hotel or who decided to build something so grand and gold on the middle of nowhere but if anybody finds out I would like to know. It is fun making up your own little stories about the place though, it’s pretty...
Read moreWe had a pretty terrible experience at this hotel, which was arranged via our travel agent. They lost our booking and we had to pay again upon check-out. When bringing us up to our room they didn't provide us with any information regarding food, breakfast, etc. nor did they offer complementary water bottles. We went down to the front desk and asked about food offerings and breakfast and they said they didn't have staff on because it was off-peak season so there were no food offerings (yet the price of our room included breakfast). ||||Regarding the room, it had a big bed and was a very large room so that was nice, however there were stains on the bed. The only good thing we can say about the hotel is that the driver for the hotel was AWESOME, if we could rate individuals separately he would get a 5. He drove us into HuayXai at night (about 30 minutes away) so that we could get food and then came back about 2 hours later to pick us up. He was a gem. ||||If we every go back to Huayxai in the future we will definitely not be staying at this hotel. We will caveat this review by saying that the experience during the peak season may have been completely different than non-peak season...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for 1 night while we waited to cross the border to Thailand. We booked it on the basis of its website, which described lovely facilities, a variety of restaurants, a mini-mart, casino etc. It sounded like the perfect place to kill some time. The website was incredibly misleading! When we arrived the place was a ghost town. It is a big complex and we were 2 of only 5 guests. The mini-mart was closed, the casino was closed (and off-site), the restaurant had no proper menu - just an A4 sheet with pictures of 6 dishes (including instant noodles), some of which weren't available. The Wifi is non-existent and the television is local channels only. It was the longest 1 night stay ever.||||To be fair, the room itself was fine. It was large, clean and comfortable. Staff were pleasant, but it was a little difficult for us to communicate since only one person spoke English.||||This hotel is obviously part of an overall development plan for the area - apparently there is a golf course due to go in and more casinos and hotels. However, at the moment it is a very isolated and boring...
