Pakha Guesthouse — Hotel in Don Khon

We loved this place. The rooms are cheap 50,000 kip for a double, river front for sunset, clean, good hot water, fan, mosquito net and hammocks on the veranda. The walls are thin but there were only a couple other guests while were here and we spaced ourselves out. There are more rooms beside the restaurant not on the river that appear to be built out of concrete and wood but we didn't ask how much they were. The wifi does not work in the room, only the restaurant but unlike the other reviewers said we were never made to feel uncomfortable about sitting in there just to use it. In fact I was standing at the entrance to the rooms checking my email when the woman who runs the place told me I was welcome to go sit in the restaurant. I even had my charger and plugged in. The food is good, some items may be a little more than a few other places closer to the bridge but the restaurant is clean and comfortable and all the women working here are very pleasant. We really enjoyed our stay. Laundry is 10,000 per kilo and they weigh it in front of you so there are no misunderstandings. The guest house is left off the bridge from Don Det approx...

Very unfriendly staff when we first arrived, but didn't have any other choice than to stay at their place. They didn't want to make an offer on prices even if we staid 6 nights.|River view bangalow are 80000kip (10$), beds at worn you can feel the springs and boxes in your back and but.|No Wifi in rooms.|Had only one towel for two and they refused to give us one more.|You cannot use the wifi in restaurant if you don't order. You will feel very unconfortable. So we decided to have our dinner and beers at another place with way more friendly staff.|In the morning, we wanted to change to the cheapest and better value room at the back of the yard where one of our friend staid the same night. The owner said yes, come back at 11am, we will change your room. Came back at 1020am and guy told us it was full. And he also asked our friend to leave cause he had booked her room at a better price. Let's start with the good: the rooms are clean and cheap at just 50,000 kip per night, the setting on the Mekong is stunning, hot water worked well, the overhead fan was just enough to keep the room temperature bearable at night, and the hammocks are the ideal spot to laze the day away. Now the not so good: the owner is incredibly rude and unfriendly, as others have mentioned. I thought this wouldn't bother me but unfortunately the wifi only works in the restaurant area so you find that you do spend a bit of time in there. The owner always made us feel like we were an inconvenience by being there and there was also the expectation that we would buy a drink or food whenever we were using the wifi. If I'm paying for a room I think it's unfair to expect that I will always buy a drink just for using the wifi, which is included in the room rate. Given the poor service we received I wouldn't...
