We stayed here for three nights at the end of Jan/Feb for my birthday and our anniversary. First trip to Laos so we were excited to see the Luang Prabang area. The hotel is in a fantastic location, very peaceful with great views of the Mekong River.
As it was a special occasion, we chose a suite with a river view and the view did not disappoint, the room was comfortable, clean and very spacious. The living and bedroom areas were all teak flooring and trim adding to the colonial style of the property which was the former palace of one of Laos most revered leaders. Our suite had a patio right at the top of the river banks, and most rooms have patios or verandas with views of the Mekong across the lawns. Highly recommend booking a room with the view.
The staff, led by General Manager Bella were excellent, very polite and helpful. We can't thank them enough for their thoughtful service.
The property sits about 4 kilometers south of Luang Prabang city but offers an hourly shuttle to town as well as airport transfers as needed.
If you are looking for a relaxing spot to spend a few days in the Luang Prabang area, this is it. The gardens are well maintained and the property has huge expanses of lawns along the river and is extremely peaceful.
Both the breakfast area and the restaurant offer seating overlooking the Mekong. Whether watching the sunrise over the river mist, or taking in an evening cocktail or meal while watching the sunset on the river, the atmosphere is one of tranquility.
I should note that this hotel is recently affiliated with the Melia brand and they have plans in the near term (2025) to do major renovation and upgrades to all areas including rooms, restaurants, etc. From what we heard, it will make the hotel even more spectacular.
Highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the Luang Prabang area. We will...
Read moreBooked 3 nights at this hotel through American Express Travel and we may have paid too much. Immediately upon arriving at the hotel I knew I have made a mistake. The lobby was hot because there is no air conditioning. Only two persons were at the front desk and the place feels like a motel more than a 5 star hotel as suggested. After check in, there were no luggage trolley for our bags, one of the guy helped us but he couldn't get all the bags. We walked about 500 meters to our room which was also on the second floor. The room was old and tiny, we booked the room with the river view. Woke up the next morning with a puddle of water in the middle of the room from the AC leaking all night. We asked for a room change but the front desk insists on fixing the leak which they did. Only problem was that there was a large stain with mold in our room. Breakfast was beyond terrible. We were one of the few people there the first day and was the only one there the second say. Not much food and they all look like they have been left out from the night before. We skipped breakfast on our last day. The pool is mice except there is no service there. It's only open from 0700-1900 which are terrible hours since it is too hot after 0800 to be out there and the sun down set until 1800. Overall our stay was terrible. The property is nice but it is not being managed right. There are not enough personnel working at the hotel. This hotel is a one star at best. The only thing that is 5 star about this hotel...
Read moreDisappointing, food was so bad that we left and never got our refund back. AVOID THIS PLACE! Hotel was old and in big need of renovation. Room were dirty and we even found the coffee cup from previous guest left dirty. Staff not motivated or welcoming. the whole resort felt like a ghost town. Food was inedible, spoiled and unsanitary. We stayed for Christmas dinner and it lasted forever as service was extremely slow waiting 40 mins between each dish and out of 5 courses, only one was partly edible. We skipped all other 4. There were no many clients but staff and kitchen were clearly under equipped and badly organized. Breakfast was so bad. Even the eggs seemed spoiled and that is when we decided to leave the resort after one night. The resort is isolated far away from everything and there is no other food options in the vicinity of the hotel. We depended 100% on the hotel for our food and the food was really bad. The worse we have encountered in Laos. So we decided to leave and we spoke to the new Managing Director (who started 3 months ago) who agreed to try to give us a refund but then of course didn't follow through and we never received a refund. Totally dishonest. We checked in another hotel "The Namkhan - Luang Prabang" which was wonderful and rescued the end of our vacation with oustanding service, beautiful setting and delicious food unlike this hotel. Don't stay here, don't waste your money with dishonest management and risk...
