Gungas is located in one of the most scenic spots in the Riga area - on the shore of the Dunezers lake. It is in an ethnographic style, but still very modern. It is an ideal location for large events such as conferences, banquets, weddings, etc, and is ideal for groups of 50 people and smaller.||||Easily reached from Riga (by car less than 30 minutes), it is still remote enough (it is deep in the forest) and provides exceptional tranquility. Each of the cabins has multiple rooms, so it is also great for couples. Sauna, campfire, rowboats are all available.||||Not much in the way of kitchen facilities - no stove or oven, just microwave.||||Everything is ideal, but the occasional penny pinching does put a damper on the enjoyment - any extras you may want will be an extra cost. I fully understand that this is a for profit business, but considering the cost for using the property (it is on the more expensive side), they could give you a few freebies as a token of good faith rather than try to squeeze a few more Euros out of you.||||You want to use the sauna? There's an additional fee for that.||You want to light a campfire? There's a fee for wood.||You want to take a rowboat out? There's a fee for that as well.||You want coffee? That's extra.||A bit surprising was when our caterers, while they were preparing the food already were told that 'you're using our water and electricity, there's an additional fee for that' (nothing like that was ever mentioned to us prior to that day), but they seemed to forget about this one (but still gave us the unfortunate impression that they were not happy that we did not select their caterers, but worked with our own).||||For some reason, the checkout time was unclear, the agreement had 12 PM, but originally the staff told us we can stay until 2 PM, but then said no, it must be 12 PM.||||That being said, I have no qualms recommending this place as the location and beauty are great. Not for nothing do NATO occasionally visit (the Adazi military base is nearby, and you can hear the firing range occasionally), but they should take it easy on the penny pinching, as that comes across as being...
Read moreGungas is a collection of 6 traditional Latvian old log houses and a sauna set in the woods beside a lake only 25km from the centre of Latvia’s beautiful varietal city, Riga. Each house was brought there piece by piece from around Latvia, although old they are modern and comfortable inside. To take advantage of the lake for recreation or fishing they provide 2 rowing boats and 2 Canadian type canoes. There is a pontoon with a swim ladder making a swim in the lake an easy pleasure. The Latvian sauna is a treat as is the wood fired hot tub. It is a peaceful romantic getaway for a couple or fantastic for a family holiday. The houses are well spaced which allows plenty of privacy. I understand they also arrange traditional Latvian wedding rituals which must be wonderful. Although peacefully set in the woods in country beside a beautiful lake it is only a short trip to enjoy the beauty of Riga. Latvia is a largely undiscovered gem and deserves a visit and is a refreshing change from the crowds of the med and...
Read moreThe place is great - authentic, peaceful, great views, stuff to do on guest house grounds etc. Besides the grouds are large enough for visitors not to bother each other. And it really has the ethnic feel to it. The sauna is very very good as well. And the staff on the property is very friendly. But there is the huge issue of penny pinching, which is also metioned in other reviews. And it doesn't suit this beautiful and spiritual place. But the problem is with the manager only, who should actually work for the clients wellbeing, but does not. The rest of the staff tries to compensate though (very nice people). We've been here twice and this never changes.|But this place itself is great for couples and families as well as for groups...
