This was our second time staying overnight in Bejas. Just like last year, it was the two of us, and we slept in the car. We had very fond memories of Bejas: a quiet campsite on the shore of a picturesque lake. Thanks to that good experience, we came back again this year. The place was still as scenic as ever, but this time the good experience was missing. The reason was the service — and, in the end, the price.
The young man at reception told us to wait for an hour until the group at table no. 6 left. We went to check, but they were only just lighting the grill. We asked why we couldn’t stay in a more secluded spot near reception instead. We could. Well, at least there was that.
But the price for two people sleeping in a car for the night was €45. That didn’t even include the possibility to shower — or at least the young man never mentioned it to us, nor did he give us a key to the shower room. The toilet was dirtier than the Latvian average, and there was no toilet paper.
On the plus side, we were able to use a pedal boat in the morning at no extra cost — though we felt we had already paid for that and much more.
I don’t think we’ll be coming to Bejas a third time, even though the place...
Read moreWe rented one of their leisure areas for a celebration. The building itself was of good standard, and the landscape is absolutely beautiful! The ducks and swans that live on the lake are also very social.
There was a fireplace, and a very small amount of firewood was supplied. The building was generally clean, but could have used more options for lighting and perhaps some pre-installed speakers.
Outside there was a grill, which was a bit challenging to use due to the weather. Maybe a small roof above it could help.
The only major drawback were the toilet facilities. Here you pay 140€ per day plus 2€ for every person plus 6€ for every car to shit in a bucket, as the only available toilet was a "village style" outhouse, with no light. There was a fitting for a light bulb in a corner, but it was empty. Here the lack of light was merciful, as one doesn't have to see the sea of urine you will sit in, if you have to sit on the toilet.
There is no possibility to wash hands anywhere! No running water, not even wet napkins or some antibac is provided....
Read moreWe didn’t have a reservation, so we were happy to be given a nice spot by the woods for our tiny caravan. This isn’t your typical campsite — there’s very limited space for overnight stays in tents or RVs. We were lucky they could accommodate us. The site is primarily designed for day visitors, who can stay until 23:00. By nighttime, we were the only ones left, apart from a few families staying in the on-site cottages. During the day, especially on weekends, the contrast is striking — the place gets quite lively with lots of people, music, conversations, and laughter. But at night, it turns completely silent — which we loved. We were welcomed by one of the family members who owns the place. While his approach could benefit from a bit of hospitality training, his sister was wonderfully warm and welcoming, making up for it. The bar and restaurant on-site are quite good, and the forest nearby is perfect for hiking or cycling. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. It's a great base for visiting both Riga...
