It's not a pretty sight that meets the arriving guests... a quite ugly exterior with crumbling balconies. But as we say in Sweden: "don't judge a dog by its hair", so let's give hotel Dobele a fair chance! And once inside at the reception desk, we were met by kind staff with surprisingly good command of the English language. ||||But then the room, where to start...? First of all, it was pretty worn down and "no frills", but that we can live with. Worse though, the lack of AC or fans made it incredibly hot and stuffy inside. Opening the windows or the balcony door was not an option, especially not when trying to sleep, due to the noise from the street. The curtains were thin and flimsy, thus making it impossible to make it dark in the room. ||||Since we were travelling with kids we had booked a family room. The double bed was decent, but the fold-out sofa could just barely fit two small kids. That we didn't sleep much that night goes without saying. ||||Internet is not included, and you have to pay extra for wifi access. Same goes for breakfast, which is also not included in the rate. In all honesty the breakfast was totally OK once we paid for it; you get a sort of mini-buffet set at your own table, containing all essentials. We seemed to be the only guests in the large restaurant that morning, go figure. ||||There were some renovation work ongoing on the front of the hotel, but I'm afraid it takes more than a facelift to resuscitate...
