Location, good staff and high standards of cleanliness make this very affordable hotel a reasonable proposition. It is adjacent to an excellent bakery and very close to a great little cafe which serves a range of traditional and western food in a clean and tidy way. We particularly liked the frikadellar soup with meat balls and vegetables, served with black rye bread.||||Staff speak at least 4 languages and unobtrusively yet efficiently had us booked in and in our room within minutes of our very early arrival. ||||Wi-Fi was unstable and our computer kept crashing, but there are local alternatives, eg the library across the road.||||Must-do places include visiting the Red Palace and the White Palace on the edge of town, the castle at Yaungulbene (20km) and the amazing castle, church and lake at Stameriena, (15km). Read moreWe arrived here well past midnight, and front desk lady was asleep, so we had to bang on the door. Lady who checked us in was very friendly.||||Hotel is quite basic. This looks like an old Soviet-built hotel, so nothing outstanding, but price is also pretty low. Room was clean and nice.||||There is no breakfast, besides coffee, but next door there is a cafe where you can eat, again, for a very reasonable price.||||Hotel is located in the center of town.
