Motel Akva — Hotel in Jelgava

If you've ever thought to yourself, "I really want to go back in time to Soviet times" - first, perhaps you should get off TripAdvisor and seek professional help, there's nothing good about those times that isn't a lot better now... Second, if you don't believe me, book a stay at Motel Akva. ||Oh, never mind, don't bother booking, because it's not like they actually check the bookings and just look at you funny when you explain you have a reservation. ||The rooms are basically straight out of a soviet era snuff film, complete with a clear scent of having been smoked in heavily in the past; oh, and flies. So many flies. No air conditioning, naturally, though they do advertise cable TV and free WiFi (neither of which I tested). There are fridges in the rooms, but they aren't on, so will take longer than my stay to actually be of use. Perhaps if they'd checked the bookings, they'd turn them on in time? Perhaps not. ||Jelgava doesn't have too many places to stay, but for sure I won't be back to this one, unless I'm shooting a movie and need it to feel...

This place was thoroughly awful. Communication with the Russian staff was very difficult, and if you're looking for a central town location, do not come here.||||The dirty rooms (ours still had left over rubbish from previous visitors) were small and the vile colours of wallpaper and curtains were only barely tolerable.||||The "restaurant" was closed at night and in the morning served flat, undercooked watery omelette with slices of tomato and cucumber on the side accompanied by dry, flavourless semi toasted bread that would have done better if it had been used as a dishcloth.||||I'm sorry, but there are no saving graces for this place other than the price, which even then was anything but value for money.||||Avoid...
