On good side- nice soft and big bed. (It's hard to come up on them in little hotels in Latvia. I know cause my husband is 2m tall.)||Also- dark, light- blocking curtains. The same- not a usual thing in Latvia.||Now- I don't know if it was because we stayed there for only one night, but yes, we did not feel welcomed. ||The room was steaming hot (as it was very warm summer's day), all the windows were closed and there is no fan in the room. We started to open all windows and eventually the door, too. I wonder why nobody let the air in before we arrived, surely they knew how hot that room gets.||Next- someone was mowing the lawn behind our window. For hours.. We checked in around 5, then left, came back at 9ish just to find out it's still full on. They finished the mowing after 11pm! ||Now, I understand at 11pm in summer it's still light outside, but why wouldn't you plan better? If you can't change the mowing day, just give your customers other room where it wouldn't be heard..? (We really needed to have this early sleep, because we had to go for a very long and tiring flight back to Australia on the next day.) ||Very confusing is also their long term parking. To get there you have to go back on the road, turn around, go again over the bride, come back down and find out the right one of the little access roads. There are no signs to help you out. Luckily we scored on first attempt. ||Yes, there is one more parking that you can easy access, but to my understanding it's for people who come for lunch or dinner- sort of a short term park.||Needless to say we did not stay for lunch, nor dinner, it just felt like we're wasting their time with our presence. ||P.S. A little fridge in the hot room would be great, too.||Overall- the vibe just wasn't the one you expect visiting beautiful Latvia. It felt dark and dingy. And staff was nice, but felt...
Read moreThis one is quite easy to miss - the restaurant & hotel is located near the Ventspils-Riga highway, and at the moment there are no billboards pointing towards the right access way (we were told that it is being taken care of).||But hopefully that won't keep hungry travelers from visiting this place because it is one of the few roadside venues that actually offer restaurant-worthy menus instead of the usual fat-soaked dishes on offer elsewhere along the road.||The menu was relatively varied, with at least 3-4 versions for starters, main courses and desserts. And the best thing, at least in our case, was that the food actually lived up to the expectations, for all of the four of us. ||For one, we could definitely recommend the famous dessert Pavlova - it looked and tasted exquisitely. The fish dishes were nicely done as well.||The coffee was great too (Illy), which is not so common when traveling along the highway. ||So, don't be put off by the roadside location - the food is great and the service efficient (at least it was for us). Besides, the view from the restaurant was quite lovely owing to the charming flower pots in front of the building, and there was very little noise, if any, coming from the highway.||To round it up, for us it was a very enjoyable experience, one we could recommend to other travelers and local foodies!||P.S. We didn't stay in the hotel, this is a review of...
Read moreExcellent place. We stayed for one night only and we had three rooms. We were warmly welcomed by a nice team of ladies. The rooms were simple but very elegant. The staff was very attentive to our needs seeing that we had two kids with us. The breakfast was made to order very fresh and delicious with a rich selection of cheese, cold cuts, vegetables and fruits along with freshly squeezed orange juice. The order of our hot dishes was taken the night before and each dish was freshly prepared. The farmer's pie I had was just a great and rich experience. The porridge ordered for the kids is the best ever tasted. Two small drawbacks:|- no hairdryer in the rooms|- we had to pay 2x10€ for extra beds for the two kids even though we had one bed and one matrice and the kids were 3.5...
