Jumiezis — Hotel in Pļaviņas

I booked a room here for seven days last Winter and I ended up staying for five weeks. Honestly, I loved this place. The owners, Ainis and Nora, live next door and are really great people. (They also operate a flower and gift shop there.) They were very good at making sure everything was OK and seeing if I needed anything. Basic English was acceptable for day to day things, and another person was available for any in-depth language needs.|||| You can see from the pictures that it's built and decorated very uniquely; actually hand-built by the owner from all natural wood and stone. There's a "full" kitchen, e.g., fridge/freezer, stove top, oven, pots and pans, etc., so you can cook a full meal--or just make sandwiches and snacks. Also, there's a grille (BBQ) in the courtyard.|||| Close by: a small food market/groceries (1 minute walk); a small cafe/bar with very good meals for 3 or 4 Euros (2 minute walk) ; the river and footpath (1 minute); train station (3 or 4 minutes); larger supermarket (10 minutes); pizza restaurant (12 minutes); Catholic, Lutheran and Baptist churches (2, 3 and 12 minutes); and a few things I'm forgetting.|||| The trains run several times a day in both directions and are very inexpensive. Some days I would take a ride to a larger city for only 1 or 2 Euros each way. I think that Riga (the capital) was about 4 Euros. So, obviously, a person is able to save quite a bit of money by basing yourself here and traveling around with the train or car.|||| If you push me for something negative, I'd suggest some more lights around the main door (inside and out) and maybe a hotel name which non-Latvian speakers could remember! ;-] Also, I'm not sure if the fireplace in the dining area is functional.|||| So, if you're looking for nightclubs, Broadway shows, 24 hour non-stop action, etc., well, this won't be for you, as the lodge is situated in a very large, quiet, village. But if you're not looking for Las Vegas, you've got a very peaceful and relaxing "log cabin lodge" with excellent wi-fi, comfortable beds, 3 bathrooms, hot water, a great vibe and at a great price. ...

Приезжаешь как в гости, это именно гостевой дом, где тебя лично встречает хозяин, покажет комнату и расскажет об окрестностях. Очень уютно, всё из дерева, огромная коллекция всякой утвари с времён СССР. Можно взять на прокат SUP доску. Река, через дорогу с променадом. Если Вы проездом, на 1-2 ночи очень рекомендую остановиться. Здесь спокойно и тихо. Но душ с туалетом общий. Нам очень понравилось, но если Вы привыкли к сервису и отелям, то...

Brīnišķīgs skats uz ielu. Var vērot garām braucošus automobīļus. Ja esi liels klusuma cienītājs, tad pa nakti guļot pie loga vari paklausīties automobīļu motoru rūkoņu. Ja galīgi negribas iet pie Daugavas pastāvēt un uz ūdeni paskatīties, tad var sēdēt pie loga un...
