Oškrogs — Hotel in Tomes pagasts

We found this the traditional way - driving around the Latvian countryside, getting hungry, and looking for a decent eatery with a "consensus of cars." When we saw both pensioners and contractors pulling into the restaurant (there is a hotel associated with this property in a separate structure a few meters away), we knew we'd found our place.||||Well off the tourist route, there were enough pictures, enough "point and talk," and a decent amount of English on the menu to make everything doable. ||||Food was - all around and in every way - excellent. Large portions by European standards (and "right sized" for Americans), there was plenty. Prices for a complete meal to include drinks hovered around six euros. ( Restaurant review ) We were one of the last customers of the day so our choices were few but what we ordered was delicious, warm and well presented. Main course was enough to share for 2 persons! Other then the TV not working, this was a nice stay. Beautiful landscape, great restaurant and awesome staff. They did not clean the room at all during my stay, but for the price, I can clean up after myself. Room looked a little dated, but gave you the feel of living back in the day.
