Friday the 11th of november 2016,||||After lunch in Bastogne, we arrived late afternoon in Bourscheid, a small village in the countryside. Hills and valleys, as far as the eye can see, offering magnificent views in all seasons. ||Party of nine we are, spending three days of good food, walks and relaxation, in the company of good friends. Our room, on the first floor, has all the modern comfort, is clean and has an interior design, that recently has been updated. A family hotel, over four generations, were a warm welcome and excellent service is still the main key for succes. ||||Before dinner at half past seven, there is still some time left, to explore the neighbourhood. A quiet place, nothing much is happening here. Still, we discover the charming beauty, in an explosion of Autumn colours. Freshen up, we have drinks in the bar, chatting about this and that. A table! The four course dinner is cooked with love, each course served in a smooth way, to the attention of the waiters. A great start for the weekend!||||Saturday the 12th of november 2016,||||Mist hangs over the meadows when we wake up. Only three of us, have the courage for a small morning stroll at eight. A bit spooky, this misty landscape, with little less to see than silhouettes. Breakfast at nine o'clock. We are back, just in time, to find everybody else downstairs in a happy mood. We are going for a walk today, start and finish at the Bourscheid Castle. ||||Into the woods it goes, straight downhill. Not easy, keeping our balance, with wet leaves and rocks, spread all over the footpaths. Along the riverside, arise steep hills, when the sun appears and autumn colours glow bright. An enchanted forest. Moments of laughter take turns with rather scary moments, but we keep enjoying the scenery.||||Back at the Castle, we change clothes in the hotel and drive off to Vianden. For lunch and some sightseeing. A bistro, overlooking the river Sûre from the roofed terrace, serves simple, tasty food. A visit to the Castle in Vianden, will be on an other occasion. It's already late afternoon and we have to be back at the hotel for dinner at seven.||||For those who still have the courage, a small walk to the next town before sunset, as a closure for the day. We have a seven course dinner this evening with accompany wines. What is served, is more than enough food for one evening. To much for my taste, but that's a personal note. Surprise, surprise ! Looking outside, the first snowflakes are whirling down. Although it only lasted for five minutes, a bit of magique just happened..||||Sunday, 13th of november 2016,||||Still misty when the morning light sets in. At breakfast, good morning every one, nothing but happy faces. Not everybody had a good night sleep, but that has his reasons. Time to pack, check out, saying goodbye to our hosts and driving back home. ||||But not before a visit of Bourscheid Castle, that is undergoing a major restauration program. This mediaevel stronghold, once standing proud high on the hill, has been rediscovered by accident, at the end of the 19th century. It had, at that time, completely felt into ruine. With much effort, it regains it's former glory. A visit worth while.||||In the rain, a last stop in La Roche - en - Ardennes, for some shopping and a late lunch. We had a great time, full of good memories that last a lifetime.||||Au revoir et...
Read moreOur walking group reserved a table for 10 for lunch for today and after a 10k hike we were all looking forward to a relaxing lunch in this very scenic part of Luxembourg. We had 3 very well behaved dogs with us and were quite surprised when we were told our pooches were not allowed in the restaurant, particularly as it is on a walking route and most restaurants in Luxembourg allow dogs with their owners. Fair enough though, as not all restaurants accept our four legged friends but the fashion in which we were told was very rude and abrupt. The owner was quite prepared to let us leave rather than find a solution. It was quite obvious to us that here was a terrace where we could happily dine with our furry friends sleeping at our feet. It took quite a bit of diplomacy not to mention a little bowing and scraping to be allowed to rearrange the tables to seat our little group in a manner that might not disturb any further clients who might drop in for a cold drink. The food however was good and moderately priced and the waitress who served us was very pleasant. This owner should take lessons in how to behave when a problem like this occurs. Instead of telling us to read the sign on the door and turning her back on us it would have been more productive to suggest the terrace and not leave it up to the client to find a way to be accommodated. I think it is time she went back to...
Read moreWe had a nice modern room with a view that didn't stop for miles. Even the small window above the toilet looked like a painting. The rooms look like they've recently been modernized, with wooden accents all around. Comfortable beds with large pillows, and a nice light bathroom with two showerheads: a rainshower and one with adjustable stream.||||We didn't have diner in the hotel because of our day trips, but the breakfast was nice. Enough choice, constantly refilled, you can boil your eggs yourself, and the lady of the hotel remembers your preference for coffee/tea quite quickly.||||We're not sure if there's a room in this hotel that's overlooking the castle, but we were totally satisfied with our view. Also, if you go left from the front door, there's a picknick spot after 15 minutes walking that has a superb view over the castle. Great place to finish the day with a book. If you don't fancy the walk, the side garden has various comfy chairs, with a nice view hidden behind some bushes.||||Thanks for the hospitality, we enjoyed...
