Hotel Le Mangoustan — Hotel in Nosy Boraha

Horrible Hotel, don't go there!!! First of all the owner will wait for you directly at the habour and calls himself "Francois". He makes an charming and nice first impression so you won't suggest he is a cheeky and sneaky guy. He makes a good offer for the bungalows and the photos look really awesome but thats all positive I have to say. We fell for the good price and went with him to his Hotel "Le Mangoustan". After a quick look at the bugalow and blinded by the great view on the ocean we decided to stay 3 nights because he said it is cheaper if we do so. Once we put our stuff in the room and started to have a more detailed look at the inside, we realized that it is a sh#thole: cockroaches in the beds, spiders everywhere, no working shower and a bathroom which doesn't deserve the name. We are backpackers so we saw a lot of hotels and do not expect any comfort but this was too much, even for us. We wanted to leave immediately and we tried to get our money back but "Francois" told us his colleague already spent everything. So one hour after we payed for three nights he already spent all the money ?! There was no way we could get any of our money back. So we left without our money but there was no possible scenario we would have stayed there. Another thing, he told us he is generous and pays the taxes (20.000 ariarys per person) for us but later we heard the taxes were actually 3000 ariarys per person. There are many other things he lied about but this would get too long. All I want to say is: STAY AWAY...

Cet hôtel est simplement une escroquerie : fuyez à tout prix si vous voyez François et sa banane "Minions" vous attendre au port de Sainte Marie quand vous arriverez en bateau. Nous c'est le Routard qui nous a mené au Mangoustan, bien mal nous en a pris !

La chambre est à la limite de la salubrité (une faune fort variée y a notamment établi ses quartiers), la literie extrêmement inconfortable, et même si vous choisissez d'y dormir, évitez à tout prix la cuisine, qui n'en a que le nom. Aussi, on vous vend un hôtel avec wifi, il n'y en a que le premier soir et ensuite "le wi-fi c'est fini", de même qu'il n'y a pas d'électricité tous les matins...!

Cependant ce n'est pas ce qui nous a le plus marqué lors de ce séjour de 5 nuits sur Sainte Marie : nous nous sommes tout bonnement fait arnaquer par François, le propriétaire de l'hôtel sur la location d'un scooter, qui gère ce petit business avec son cousin Ludo : le scoot étant loué pour 2.5 jours, le fameux Ludo est venu le récupérer manu militari au bout de 1.5 jours en disant que c'est ce qui était prévu. On a beau leur montrer le contrat, les deux hommes se renvoyaient la faute (François de l'hôtel : "ce n'est pas à moi que vous avez loué le scoot, ce n'est pas avec moi qu'il faut voir ça" ; Ludo des scooters : "vous aviez prévu ça avec François, moi je n'ai pas lu le contrat (!!!) je ne suis pas au courant"). Etant précisé que le scoot dont nous avons bénéficié sur 1.5 jours est tombé deux fois en panne.

Bref ce ne sont pas les hôtels pas cher qui manquent à Sainte Marie, évitez à tout...

I see lots of mixed reviews.

The fella seems nice enough to me. He actually couldn't do enough for me. Getting me phone credit, renting bikes ects and did this all super quick.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for. The place is very dirty but it's close enough to town and good enough to rest your head.

Would recommend if you're on a budget. If you got some spare cash I would for sure go...
