Having previously come here for dinner, this time we stopped for a quick break on the way south after a couple of work days in Karonga. The service is beyond awful. We met people who had been waiting an hour and a half for their food - the only other people in the place. We were told that food would take 20 - 30 minutes but, wisely, disbelieved this. I asked if they had Mzuzu coffee. 'Yes' was the definite answer. When they brought me a pot of hot water and a jar of instant chicory/coffee, I challenged that. It's the Malawi thing of giving you the answer you'd like to have. The staff member was puzzled when I refused that 'coffee'. It also took ages to arrive. After drinking our Fanta and Coke, we headed home, without lunch. ||||What is it about service that they don't get? People don't have all day to wait on the off-chance that food will arrive at some point. That might be acceptable at dinner time but is not ok during the...
Read moreBasic Rooms are desperately run down and require urgent upgrading. Bath tubs and toilets are unsightly. Our room had a shower. The showers basin was not clean either. Please please get rid of those towels. I could not honestly say what colour they were. Were they grey or brown or very badly managed white towels? We had to use our face towels to dry ourselves. No toilet roll supplied. Not sure if executive rooms are any better. We looked into at least two Basic Rooms because settling into a third one. We were desperately for accommodation as it was quite late in the evening. Good customer service at the restaurant. Mr ?Chiponda was nice and very professional. Very nice location with a beautiful beach. This was our second time at Mikoma Beach Lodge. Last year, our room was super clean. I do know why the place has deteriorated that much . May be tue business is struggling after the...
Read moreI am here every year with a group of 12 persons, for 4 or 5 nights, So I know the place quite well. I really like the lodge every year more. Executive rooms are fine and water pressure was good for the first time in 5 years. Breakfast still is chaotic but dinner, especially the buffets , are very nice. Good cook. Of course this is not a place for a sun bathing hoilday. But I tell you out of my thousands of pictures of Malawian sunrises the best come from this location as the Livingstone mountains on the opposite shore create unique cloud situations with dramatic light. Yes, it's not perfect. They are unable to make provisions even if they know a big group will come. So you arrive and bottled wine, tonic or coffee is missing. But they will do their best to get it after you complain. Certainly not the league of Chintheche lodges but North of Mzuzu there simply is no better place (Can...
