I put up at Crown Hotel while in Lilongwe for six nights, 1-3 and 5-7 September 2019. The room was big, clean, and best of all, had a balcony and a door opening into it. My room had a view of the main road. The staff were generally pleasant, especially the restaurant staff where breakfast was served. The toilet and shower worked fine. There were several seminars taking place at the hotel, and it struck me as quite a popular place for such kinds of meetings. The breakfast lacked variety, it was the same fare every day, though well made: fried potatoes, some baked beans, a sausage, eggs, and the usual tea/coffee, bread, cereal, some fruit (paw paw and water melon) and juice. The apricot juice in particular was to die for! The downsides were that the AC unit in my room didn't work, although I didn't need to use it (I preferred to open the window and the balcony door) and no fridge, although the brochure stated that every room had a fridge. The hotel is in an overall old building, but the location was perfect: along Kamuzu Procession Road, just a walking distance to the Old Town Mall and Shoprite where virtually all public transport vehicles have their terminus, from where one can get transport to all areas of Lilongwe, as well as the bus depot from where long distance vehicles to other areas of Malawi can be found. The final verdict? I'd definitely stay here again when in Lilongwe: as a budget traveller, Crown Hotel perfectly...
