Overall, a great experience. A few points:||1. The pictures included in the listing are inaccurate. It makes it look like all the rooms are suites (separate seating area with an overlooking patio). While the room was renovated and nice, it was smaller than expected. The patio opened into the back garden but it wasn’t an overlooking patio. My friends had this room and switched into a suite, which apparently was a little more worn down than the room I stayed in||2. Our view was obscured with fog most of the time. The beds were very comfortable. The location was excellent and close to the main hiking options on the plateau||3. The breakfast buffet was excellent and accommodated people of all kinds of dietary needs. It has an omelet bar, oatmeal, fresh fruit, and standard Western-style hot food offerings||4. The Mulunguzi restaurant was good as well with a good mix of Western, Indian, and local Malawian offerings. Great value for the price and good, timely service||5. The maintenance came quickly and accommodated minor needs from our group||6. Wifi speeds were good, not great. Usable||7. A multitude of tour offerings. My group went with Isaac, a local guide, that wasn’t listed through the hotel, but found through online means. He was AMAZING and we loved him and his prices were very competitive||8. There are a few small shops on the road leading up to the hotel. Prices are pretty reasonable. One shop, a little further down the road from the hotel had really interesting furniture/art||I would stay here again if I found...

I had an amazing experience at the sauna at Ku Chawe, and the standout service from Thoko at reception and Mavuto in the gym and sauna made it even better. Thoko was quick to respond to my WhatsApp inquiries, answered all my questions, and booked my session seamlessly. When I arrived, I was being escorted to the sauna by Mavuto within 5 minutes!
Mavuto was incredibly friendly, professional, and informative. He made sure I was comfortable and asked for feedback, showing a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction.
The sauna itself was fantastic—clean, well-equipped, and with a recommended session of 40 minutes, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Two towels were provided (one for the sauna and one for the shower), and the entire facility was spotless.
I did suggest a few additions, like bottled water for sale at the sauna, mats to prevent slipping, and possibly massages to complement the experience. But even as it stands, the service and facilities are top-notch.
Ku Chawe is a gem, with breathtaking views, a gorgeous pool, lovely rooms, and dining options. I highly recommend visiting the sauna and can’t thank Thoko and Mavuto enough for making it such a smooth and enjoyable experience. I'll...
Read moreSunbird hotel is located at the top of zomba plateau. The scenery reminds you of the Pacific Northwest with the myriad of pine trees planted by British colonists over 50 years ago. There is a damn that has produced a scenic lake in the valleys between the mountain. All of this scenery leads you to the hotel that overlooks zomba city at the foot hills of the mountain. There is a restaurant that overlooks the foothills as well. The food is decently priced if you have us currency, otherwise it would be considered very expensive for a Malawian. Food takes some time for it to come out as I believe it is made to order. The wait staff are pleasant and responsive. Overall visiting the hotel is good even if you want to just get...
