Me and my husband were travelling to Bario by plane when we met Lucy at the airport in Miri. She pointed out places on the plane out the window and then invited us to stay with her at the homestay. This worked out well for us as we didnât have a place booked or transport, and Lucy took us in her transport to her home.|It was at Lucy and Davidâs that we learnt the true meaning of âhomestayâ. The family made us feel at home and we ate all our meals together which gave us an opportunity to learn about their lives, and also the history of the kelabit highlands. Both Lucy and David have had fascinating lives and have seen themselves the changes in the highlands; for example the increase and change in transport or the growth from using a blowpipe to guns for hunting, as well as how Christianity changed the area. Lucy gave me an article on her move back to Bario to read and David showed us lots of books too, this helped us understand the area even more. Bario itself is beautiful - our only complaint is that we didnât stay long enough! Recommendations - climb prayer mountain; trek to Pa Lungan and stay over; trek to the Penang settlements; and jungle trekking. Many thanks...

The place looked like a junk yard. Our bedsheets were stinky and the blankets were smelly. Who bad was it? We bought some detergent and washed bedsheets and blankets, and the water was dark. The smelly portion was in the blanket.
The corridor to the rooms were dirty. We had to buy a broom and other cleaning agents to clean the floors and bathrooms. Bathroom was never cleaned daily and the garbage not emptied.
The only redeeming features was the food and the distance to town was about 10 mins. We looked at other longhouses that took guests and visitors. The others were definitely cleaner and better kept. There was no junk.
The junk for this place filled the front yard and backyard and all around. The basement was a collection of junk and workshop.
NO, NO... don't stay...
