When my husband and I were looking for a place to celebrate the Iban Traditional part of our wedding, searching around online, we found Gua Longhouse and thought that it was a perfect, traditional addition to the authentic and rustic theme that we were looking for. My inlaws were also looking for a place where there were no cut off times for "partying" (as it is with Iban tradition to celebrate until the dawn breaks).||||However, after personally visiting once I already had doubts. For the exuberant prices that were quoted to us I was expecting so much more. The "manager" of the place showed us the best room and told us that all other rooms are the same (and we took her word for it). Additional long tables and chairs had to be add-on's and asked us for a downpayment for those (even though we paid the initial downpayment already for about 400 guests). Everything else like decorations, lightings, tents are add-ons...||||Fast forward to the wedding day itself, we arrived at the place at 12pm (as that was the time stipulated for check-in) and nobody was around. The place was filthy, the rooms were all locked. My family and inlaws decided to clean up ourselves and set up.||||2pm came and then only did the housekeeper come and unlock all the rooms, switched on the air-conditioning for all rooms with one remote (took the remote and didn't leave it behind). The toilets were filthy, there was astro but none of the TV's in the room work, no wardrobes to put clothes in, the bedsheets and blankets were dusty, the floors were also dusty. No mirrors in any rooms or toilets except for one room... This knowing that we paid well into the thousands of Brunei $ for this place, and the manager almost demanded for the full payment before the event was over, before she can go home and leave us.||||The dinner was cooked by the manager herself and in reality she only cooked for 200 guests (when we paid for catered food for 400 guests). There were no extensions for power outlets for us to put up additional lighting at the open space (so guests were walking about in the dark). There were no free flow drinks (although she said there will be) and locked up the fridge with the other canned soft drinks inside, inaccessible.||||The longhouse itself was sorely in need of repair. Rotting wood, doors that are barely hanging on the door frames, weaved carpets that needed replacing. The road driving into the longhouse from the main road was filled with deep pot holes and not lighted, causing damage to some cars driving in unawares.||||We were cheated out of our money. Unless the management decides to completely renovate this place I will not recommend anyone...
