Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai — Hotel in Borneo

Hey, coming to review, Rauf and I felt so glad for have been chosen our wedding reception here. The wedding suite situated at Borneo Garden wing is indeedly breathtaking view with peaceful atmosphere as we can feel the sea-breeze, smell of the ocean, the susurration of the ocean waves and etc. The experience is indescribable.

For the location, it’s about 43km from Kota Kinabalu town. Quite a far from any attractions places. This is private island whom focus in indulging nature and feel like embracing the moment inside. For those whom finding serenity, this is the place to go.

For the room itself, as the Wedding suite located at the Borneo Garden West Wing, I believe it is an old building compare to the East side building thus the facility is just nice to me. The only discomfort experience was, when the water heater is not functioning and we had called the maintenance staff to fix it, they had tried, but no results at that moment. The bed, sofa, lounge, fridge, bathroom were just ideal.

For the service-wise, specifically during my wedding reception plan, is 5 star experience. We chose the Sunset Bar area to be the wedding venue and the wedding timing is so perfect as we can feel the atmosphere and indulge the spectacular view during day, sunset and night. I would like to send my special gratitude to Miss Vanessa Thien, my wedding executive, who had been patiently and devote herself in entertaining us at any time even out of her office hours operation. From the early beginning during on phone, to the physical meeting and the food tasting, towards the end. They had wide selection of food with 12 appetiser/dessert, creamy roasted curry pumpkin soup, al Dante Italian spaghetti, delightful Nasi Minyak, scrumptious butter prawn, flavourful wok fried lamb fillet and mouthwatering pajeri nenas. 5 stars with the food!

One thing very reminding me of Vanessa is when I asked her if she could fold a specific napkin-folded style so that I can insert “Thank You” card inside it, and surprisingly she entertained to my request. She is also logical and practical as she suggested me to change the menu card to “Thank You” card which I believe it’s environmental friendly and really keen to her suggestion. She’s so lovely! That’s how committed is she when it comes to her line of works in ensuring her client had the best experience even by the those little fussy request from me.

She response very promptly whether is it me or any of my guest and make everyone to feel welcomed by her warm aura. She even customised the wedding package for me (the flower arrangements). Also, she still entertained me to place my wedding cake in their pantry when I contacted her at 11pm. Always comforting me that it is okay and do not hesitate to contact her at any time and she really kept her promise even I feel guilty to contact her at first.

The day after my wedding reception was Vanessa’s one-day off. She has four wedding in a row and ours one is the third wedding if I’m not mistaken. Very hardworking woman she is. She came to our suite, gave us our wedding cake with a bottle of sparkling water and bid us goodbye before she left. Thank you so much Van, you’re the best! My husband and I came here to celebrate our wedding day with our family and friends. There is nothing but nice things to say about this place. The venue was marvelous! The staffs were amazing and friendly. Food was exquisite!

Our intimate wedding reception at their Sunset Bar was everything! It was a moment we would never forget. None of this would happen without the help and guidance of their wedding planner, Miss Vanessa!

I would like to emphasize on Vanessa's service throughout the whole planning process up to the end, our check-out. Coming from an event planner myself, I can say that Vanessa's service towards meeting all our wants and needs is an unparalleled excellence and exceptional service. She transformed our special day into a truly magical and unforgettable experience. From her quick and helpful assistance to her unparalleled dedication not only to us, the bride and groom, but also to our guests. In my line of work, I worked side by side with a lot of wedding and event planner.. Vanessa unquestionably deserves the title of "the best there is".

What truly sets Vanessa apart from the rest is her unwavering commitment in exceeding expectations. She consistently went above and beyond to ensure that our wedding day was nothing short of perfection. From her creative ideas and unique suggestions to her willingness to accommodate any last-minute changes. We made a last-minute decision to have our Tea Ceremony before the reception, and Vanessa pulled it off perfectly! It was truly remarkable.

No words can describe how blessed we are to have Vanessa as our wedding planner. We cannot recommend her service enough, as she undoubtedly played a pivotal role in making our special day the most unforgettable experience of our lives. We cherish the times we had throughout the whole process and friendship we built along the way!

A gem that is slowly covered by Mud.

To the resort's owner Its a superb place but without the love and care. I hope the owner can have an SOP to all staffs so that they know visitor will be able to just write their room number and sign when they spend during their stay and pay when check out. Not like different department have different way to pay. We ordered at cafe during tea time and it was ok to sign with just room number, but when we special order a hot chocolates during bfast, we were told that we need to pay via cash or credit card. and also for water sports. Please, this is a 5 stars beach resort with activities, you dont expect your client to bring their cash or credit card with them when they are enjoying these activities, and take the risk of their cards dropping into the ocean. Train your staff on their position. Your ocean activities' staff gave no briefing, only rent out the equipment to us. We were lucky as i know how to use most of them. what if someone who is a first time using it? no one taught us how to put on the life jacket, no one told us where we should play our kayaking or jet ski at, no one told us what we should do if we are stranded. set up an area for visitor to swim at the beach and another side for water sport to avoid unwanted accident. You are having some human resources issues, I don't know what it is but seriously your staffs majority do not have the heart to work. on the day of checkout, i have a few bags that need to be transfer to the lobby, called up your lobby using in room phone, no one pick up. called your hotel main number using my own mobile phone, no one picked up too. I need to run 2 rounds to get my bags to the lobby. Your bell boy only came to me WHEN I START TO MOVE MY LUGGAGE TO MY CAR BOOT. I thought maybe reception was busy thats why no one answered my phone, but you know what? all your receptionist and bell boy were too busy chit chatting. If you are still recovering from the economy lost during the pandemic, you dont need to upgrade anything in the resort. but please maintain it. keep the maintenance up to date. Look at the picture below. the tiles by the pool side is coming off and it can give your guest a very big cut on the leg. Not all guest will help you to warn other guest about the tiles like how we did. I can choose to keep silence and let this place rot. But i choose to write this out so that you appreciate this place which is a gem and refire up the engine and make this gem shine again.

Have a look at how Cherating Club Med is running their place, at least i felt some passion and staff belongingness over there. Your place, your staffs dont even feel their connection there with the resorts.

The only one thing i want to praise is your Olive and Noble house team which at least i can still feel some passion.
