This is our first time staying in Johor Bahru for a business trip. I was staying in Hotel Holmes GP. |This hotel located in Gelang Patah residence/Mall.|First impression for us is this place looked isolated and quite. We arrived at abondened GP Mall, and stopped in front of the lobby. But a bit surprised when walking into the froint desk, we found it was big inside.||Hotel Holmes is an old hotel where we guess was famous because it located in the same building with mall n residence before pandemic.|We stayed for 3D2N there (11-13/Feb/2024 during Chinese New Year Holiday)|This hotel is a three stars hotel, with a swimming pool at 5th floor.|There is 2 parking lost with electrical charger.|There is a restaurant for breakfast, but we have to purchase for RM16 per pax. |Breakfast taste was delicious with free flow nasi goreng, fried noodle, nasi lemak, porridge, and various dim sums, toast, coffee and tea. It's the good point for us. The cafe decoration also nice to warm the atmosfer.||Using the lifts we arrived on 12th floor.|The wallpaper along the aisle looked classic but old. But the room was spacious with all toiletries, drinking water, coffee-tea maker, refrigerator, wardrobe, TV, AC, and glass window. I found the shampoo and bath gel provided in the shower room were not a cheap one.|We used a king size bed and very comfortable.||Around the area, there is one DIY store, Marrybrown fast food resto, fruit market, Family Mart at petrol station, some shop houses with local restaurants and Chinese food, laundries. We were lucky that some of the store open during the Chinese New Year season.||From the hotel it is easy to book grab taxi to fi anywhere you want. |Even though this hotel is old but it still comfortable to stay. It is out of our expectations.|All staff were kind and helpful.|Wish all the management and staff to be...
Read moreI think the management should hold a communication skills class for their staffs. I was not a guest who stayed but a guest who used their amenity (swimming pool) during my swimming lesson. I felt the receptionists was not professional when clarifying that there has to be a fee paid for using their amenity, (which I already paid to my swimming academy). I’m aware that this was purely due to miscommunication between the hotel management & the academy plus the academy & the student (me). But a proper professional explanation and communication would have been a lot better. Firstly, I was already at the pool but they denied entry and told me to wait at the lobby until my instructor arrives . I find this a tad bit unprofessional and ridiculous. Secondly, I felt that they were trying to be sarcastic when I doubted the entrance fee. I mean obviously I was wrong, but they could have been nice by explaining the difference in fee for adult and kids. You really don’t have to be sarcastic by asking me if I’m an adult or a kid, well if I look too young, then thank you for your compliment. I think a little kindness will go a long way. Thirdly, when I thanked them after the payment, there was just a nod. Maybe I should be just glad for the nod rather than complaining, lol. But you know, you can do better. Kindness goes a long way . Maybe you had a ?bad day . Hope you will have better days ,...
Read moreI am unsure why does this hotel get such high reviews on Booking.com, Agoda.com or even here on Google.com. Is the staff writing down the reviews themselves ? We were supposed to stay there for a few days and I booked a non-smoking room. Well, it turns out the whole hotel smell smoke. The first room we were given was actually placed near the smoking area, so obviously the smell was extremely strong inside the room. We discussed with the staff, explaining that we could not stay, and he kindly proposed two other rooms, the first one with the same configuration as the other (the type of room we actually book is only at the corner near the smoking area on each floor). The other room was in the middle of the corridor. But the whole place smell cigarette and is not very well maintained and cleaned. The aircon is vetusted and the same vicious air was shared by all the room, independently of where they were located. Each floor as the same issue. Mould on the ceiling and walls, also shows how unsanitary is the place. There were going through renovations, materials are put everywhere, even in the middle of the construction area. We found another hotel, but guess what ? Neither Agoda or the Hotel want to refund us, while we would not have booked this hotel in the first place if the ratings were not ...
