Our stay at Ulu Muda Earth Lodge was nothing short of extraordinary – truly the most memorable, meaningful, and magical experience of our entire three-week trip through Asia. Read moreOur three days at Ulu Muda with Hymeir and Wan were wonderful. It was a magical experience to be able to see and live within the forest, reconnecting and unplugging from our usual day-to-day life. Of course, the highlight was seeing elephants. We are so grateful to have had such incredible tour guides, no words do it justice to describe the feeling of flowing down the river on the boat and listening to the jungle sounds, looking out for elephant tracks, and having that feeling of not knowing if and when we might see them.
A huge thank you to Wan for providing meals which were not only delicious but also catered to myself as someone who is vegan. We felt well looked after and safe at the Earth Lodge - as two young women, this is something that is particularly important when you're travelling and we could not have wished for a better experience. Hymeir was sure to listen to how we were feeling, and planned the day according to our energy/fitness levels.
It's certainly true that less is more when it comes to packing for Ulu Muda - my friend and I shared just one of our 30L rucksacks to pack the things we needed, and even then we ended up wearing pretty much the same outfit for all three days! Waterproofs of course are probably the biggest must, and a hat. We were able to leave our other rucksack with all our other belongings in Hymeir's car.
Overall, I really do hope that one day I can return to Ulu Muda with my family or other friends. It's an incredibly special place and Jasmine and I will forever remember those moments we spent watching the elephants and their babies peacefully wading across the river or ambling down the riverside. Thank you,...
Read moreWe had a 5D4N experience at Earth Lodge. Waking up every morning by a live orchestra specially performed by the agile gibbons, hornbills, eagles, frogs and the list goes on and on, and now the jungle is awakened. The river cruise is scheduled almost every morning for the enthusiasts! Off we went with Hymeir and his crew in the midst along the river in search of any signs of life. Never have we imagined that the wildlife here in our homeland, Malaysia is so diverse and serene. Earth Lodge is right at the heart of Ulu Muda rainforest, a resting spot for all 10 different species of hornbills. The 5D itinerary takes you on a full on jungle experience. From hiking on the deep jungle trails to exploring the cave in Bukit Labu, Hymeir gave us a good insight about the rainforest and the wildlife that depends upon it. Clearly, protecting Ulu Muda has always been the number one priority in his goal. By arranging smaller groups to the jungle per year means keeping the tourist’s footprints at a minimum impact. Earth Lodge is for those who care and are curious to learn about the Malaysian rainforest, the migration birds, limestone caves and etc. We felt very well taken care of by the Hymeir and the crew. Freshly cooked meals every day, from asian to western dishes. A big compliment to the team for making us feel welcomed. Thank you once again for making our stay...
