The experience you get here is truly comparable to high end glamping experiences you get overseas. When you arrive, you get welcome drinks and truffle-flavoured chips, which is now my benchmark for being pampered. Homemade iced lemon tea for non-carbonated people like me, and two different flavoured Bundabergs, and my husband and I devoured the truffle chips while listening to the sounds of nature on the deck.
We then spent the day just chilling and talking, switching between the deck and the FULLY AIRCONDITIONED tent. The fact that we hardly took any pictures is a testament to how lazy and relaxed we were.
As dinner arrived, we had pasta and grilled chicken which were significantly better than expected. The hosts (Irena and Allan) were cautiously friendly in case we weren’t in the mood to chat, which was nice and respectful. It turned out we worked in similar creative fields, so we had a blast discussing many things, from the industry to life in KL, their journey downsizing, building from scratch, frogs and tentacle-shaped frog eggs they have seen nearby, travelling, and our passion, rug hoarding. They have three cats that were semi friendly (by semi I mean they hover around but won’t sit on your lap 😤) which I’m not allergic to (and I’m severely allergic to cats).
All in all, we spent our time there birdwatching (wish I had brought my Birds of Borneo book), there truly are really amazing birds there! Watching two huge ant colony migrations between tree branches that went on for hours. Irena told us of the wildlife that she has encountered but we didn’t get to spot, which were A family of memerang (otters) Kongkang (slow loris) Tupai jinjang (a kind of striped squirrel) Moonrats
We wanted to explore kuala pilah and had high hopes of having kopitiam breakfast, but alas, La Hilir was too good to give up. One interesting thing to note is the experience here is probably really, really good because they themselves (or their kids) periodically sleep in the tents to see if there’s anything missing or can be improved. As a UX designer, this didn’t go unnoticed. You literally have everything you need for an extremely lazy staycation here. I didn’t even read my kindle.
There’s no WiFi but the (maxis) signal you get from the middle level is good enough to take gmeet calls.
If there’s one feedback I could make, it’s that at night the lights outside the tent were turned on and we couldn’t turn it off. I understand it’s probably for guests who need to go to the toilet at night and need enough lighting, I just wish the lights were closer and pointing to the ground so that they don’t disturb the wildlife at night. Also we were trying to escape light pollution from KL and I prefer sleeping in pitch black.
All in all, it’s pretty pricey but totally worth it. We can’t wait...
Read moreI had the absolute pleasure of staying at this stunning glamping base camp, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Nestled in nature, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sound of a nearby stream, the location offers the perfect blend of tranquility and beauty. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this place is a labor of love, with every detail meticulously crafted.
The convenience of modern amenities made the experience even more remarkable. The toilets were impeccably clean, with a strong flushing system and a bidet that worked perfectly. The shower had both hot and cold water options, which was a great touch, especially after a day of outdoor fun. For those looking for something unique, there's even an outdoor bathtub with a shower, offering a whimsical way to enjoy a bath under the open sky—perfect for a family experience or a quiet moment of solitude.
Inside the tent, we were treated to what felt more like a boutique hotel room than a typical camping setup. The air-conditioned tent, coupled with an incredibly comfortable bed, transformed the experience into pure luxury. Every corner was spotless, and the decor was simply immaculate, making the space feel cozy yet sophisticated.
One of the highlights was the fire pit right outside the tent, where we could build our own fire—a perfect way to wind down the evening. And the dining experience? It was like stepping into a scene from a high-end lifestyle magazine. Every meal was beautifully presented on curated tables, and the food was delicious, complementing the serene surroundings.
Adding to the charm, the owners have set up an outdoor screen just outside their tiny, beautifully designed home, offering an opportunity to watch shows—a truly magical touch. The family who runs this glamping base camp are warm, kind, and attentive, making the entire stay feel personal and heartfelt.
In all honesty, the vibe was so perfect we didn’t even feel the need to leave for sightseeing. Every moment spent here was a delight, and the connection to nature and luxury was so seamless, we could have stayed forever. If you’re looking for an unforgettable escape, this is the place. I can’t recommend it...
Read moreIt was a great 2 day 1 night staycation with me and my sisters and totally worth it for a homebody like me.
a PRIVATE stay (literally). You would be the only guest there and the owners family are staying nearby incase you need anything -They have games, books and refreshment(the truffle chips are to die for). its also an air conditioned tent with fan available if you need to use it Theres an outdoor tub for you to relax or bath in for fun. breakfast and dinner are provided during our stay. You can also BBQ on top of the dinner provided. So we brought our own ingredients and the owners were kind enough to provide the charcoal and bbq equipment. Just give them a heads up so they can prepare it. -After dinner they allowed us to watch movies at the projected screen until 11pm and even gave us some hot drinks. there are some mosquitoes (well it is nature) but they do provide mosquito spray. Just bring a mosquito repellent for your normal outdoor activities Theres two tents provided all to yourself. Even if you were using only one tent , the other tent wouldn’t be rented or given out. 3 people in a tent is cozy enough to move around but 2 people per tent is more ideal. Theres also free bicycles or e-bikes for you to ride around the neighbourhood during your stay. theres no pool but there is a river nearby and if you want a quick dip the outdoor tub is good enough.
Overall the owners were very accommodating and nice to talk to. Its also rare to get a place such as this all to your self without the hustle and bustle of other guest around. The staycation felt more intimate and better with the company you have 🙂
Did i mention theres 3...
