“Love is a many splendored thing”, so says owner and our new found friend, TJ. Indeed, if the short weekend is anything to go by, I want more of this many splendored thing. If rustic living, slow barbecued food (prepared no less by a retired executive chef), and plenty of chatter (under the influence) with the owner is your kind of thing, then contact TJ. I’ll just post some crucial details: 1. On parking. As his abode is located 10 minutes away on 4x4, you park your vehicle in front of a Tamil school. Don’t bring your fancy vehicles. If you’re risk averse like me, speak with friendly TJ and he’ll give you options. 2. Rooms are simple yet comfortable. Bed fits a 180cm tall individual comfortably, or 2 smaller individuals. Fan is provided but it’s so cold in this lush highland forest that I didn’t see a need at night. 3. Do consider dining options with TJ. I enjoyed our BBQ dinner. You start of with skewered squid, Braised Chicken Wings, Fuyu Pork ribs (my favorite), Chef style Otak Otak (TJ’s hometown, Muar) with chunky pieces of fish complemented well with home made Sambal, roasted stuffed eggplant, baked potato with pesto sauce, and finished with BBQ corns. Anyone could make fuyu pork ribs but a good chef who controls his fire well is hard to find.

My partner and I stayed here for 1 night while traveling up north to Kelantan from Johor Bahru. We booked the wrong date and yet the owner, TJ hosted us perfectly fine. We are extremely grateful for their kindness. We had one of the best bbq dinner curated by TJ for us, and enjoyed the very authentic and honest chatters together. If you like nature and experience something really unique in Malaysia, come here! Do not miss discovering the ‘hidden’ moon tower built by TJ with patience, passion and love for life. Thank you for hosting us TJ and Linda.

The rooms are tidy, but they offer more of the natural vibe, so no air-conditioning and WiFi. You sleep in mosquito nets at night. Quite a unique experience. The host prepared wonderful BBQ dinner and breakfast for us. Tasty~ Really love the food. And there was a karaoke set with Bluetooth connection. The place is within data coverage, and you can sing while streaming YouTube.

Bricolage, as its name suggest, is constructed using whatever available. The owner TJ, is a retired chef and has expressed all his love, his call, his dreams in this place. TJ has literally constructed the building including its access roads almost all by himself. He decorated the walls with passion of re-usable materials and love of nature. This place is an excellent hideout from busy city life. ||The food is what we came for. You won’t get the same food anywhere else. The food is cooked with highest standard, nothing less than what you can expect in 5-star hotel. One can feel the chef’s love and passion in...
