Read moreThis place has not generated the WOW ! factor i was expecting. I think people (staff ) working there are nice and friendly, but there are a lot of things that are oversold for this property. It is located around 1 hour drive from KL. Easy to access. When you reach, there is no "lobby" or a place where you chekc-in, check out, where you can easily go and buy beers, snacks....or few small things that you might need. You need to whatapps the staff, ask...not convenient Then the chalet on top of the three ....??? It is more boxes / containers installed on industrial scaffolding metalic pipes than anything else. Maintenance and amenities in the chalet are very very unsufficient in my point of view, for the cost of the night we are paying. We stayed in one of the nicest and latest bungalow tree. Bed are without blanket, didnt like the easy done bathroom ( at the cheapest way ) ...Our friends stayed in another model of chalet, which didn't even have proper A/C but just these standing air cooler. For KIDS, there is absolutely nothing to do, apart from playing with the nice stray dogs hanging around. Walking around ? be prepared to mountain hiking as the roads are super stiff .. but anyway there is nowhere to go and nothing to see, so you stay in your tree. Rockpool : forget it, there is no rockpool, no water or not even nice clean water river nearby in where you dream to go and play, or have picnic. So, frankly, I would not spend 1 more night over there, even if it was given to me free. I am sorry to give such negative comments, but frankly, if this place was nicely managed, it could be super great with a little bit more amenities, care and attention to details ....and maintenance. But at 400 ++ RM a night, the " eco " friendly, " discover the nature" things or "rebirth to the origin" things has not been...
We had a wonderful experience recently at the Gibbon Retreat, Bentong which was recommended by a friend. Our family of four stayed for one night at Bentong view chalet and returned again during the school holidays to River view cabin. We came here on a normal sedan car (which needed a thorough washing later) but it is more suited to use a SUV or pickup for the entrance access road. Surprisingly, mobile reception in the retreat was quite good considering we were not anywhere near town.
The highlights are the rock pool, the rocky river and the hiking available around this hill retreat which was a great way to escape city life. The place was quiet, serene and our cabin had a fantastic view of Bentong town which was even better at night. The facilities included a fridge, cutleries, bbq pit, steamboat facility, hot water shower and a tent with camp beds that the kids love. Even though you can hear the insects at night, we did not have the need to light up the mosquito coil.
We took the daily breakfast here but for dinner and lunch, we drove to Bentong town 10km away for their wonderful noodles and coffee. Grabfood was also available if you don't have transportation to town. Service by the caretaker manager was efficient, helpful and Jason and kakak was so informative. Their guard dogs also took great care of us daily.
Our family had a really good rest here (with the flowing river sounds) and recommend this place highly. The only downside is the access road is more towards a gravel dirt road rather than a bitumen road and the wet bathroom. Although GRB was a great experience for our family, my personal point of view is that it is best to bring kids above 5 and adults below 80.
Take note that there are road improvements and levelling being done in...
Read moreGibbon Retreat is undoubtedly the best place I've ever visited. We reserved the Tongkat Ali Chalet for my son's birthday celebration. The approach may not seem inviting at the beginning due to the road conditions, but once you arrive, your entire perspective shifts to a sense of calm and tranquillity. As a nature enthusiast, I revelled in the serenity, the fresh jungle air, and the melody of raindrops—exactly what I desired for a retreat.
The rooms are tidy and well-kept, though minor maintenance, particularly in the bathroom, might be necessary; overall, they're in excellent condition. The chalets are robust and well-constructed. I appreciate the use of corrugated transparent polycarbonate roofing, which allows for ample sunlight despite the dense tree shade. The aluminum scaffolding structure and, most notably, the metal grating floors—which eliminate concerns over fallen leaves, sand, dust, or food dropped by children—help keep the chalet cool and airy, despite the high humidity. I can tell they built from experience.
We were fortunate to experience gentle rain from the evening until 4 am. I camped out with my child during the rainy night, and to our surprise, the camp beds were incredibly comfortable, granting us the best sleep ever. The nights are chilly, around 20 degrees Celsius, but very snug; I'd recommend bringing socks and a thicker blanket for those sensitive to the cold.
I usually attract mosquitoes, but I was pleasantly surprised by the near absence of mosquitoes during my two-day stay at Gibbon Retreat.
If you think the pictures in the gallery look cool and great, you're mistaken—they're not just great, they're phenomenal. Moreover, the chalet rates are exceptionally...
