Food is no doubt good at The Dome and The Terrace and the scenery is fantastic. However I am giving 1 star review as there is always this issue of diners (club members/ guests) smoking at non-smoking areas! Even if it is outdoor, there are clear non-smoking signs on every table and yet these people tend to ignore the signs. This clearly irritates and affects other club members who pay to enjoy the facilities there. Having spoken to the waitress about this issue, apparently she claimed this is not the first time members had complained and management had been informed many times but it seems like no actions were ever taken.
Meru Valley Resort is known to be one of the most prestigious golf clubs in Ipoh and yet club rules are not being enforced and members are flouting club rules according to their whims and fancies. I am also a member of other golf clubs which charge cheaper monthly subscriptions but rules are much more enforced and adhered to. If a member were to flout any club rules, serious action will be taken against them to the point where their memberships will be suspended or revoked.
I want to know what is the point of having non-smoking signs but being ignored by irresponsible members/guests. What actions will the management of Meru Valley Resort take to enforce the club rules and what actions will be taken against members/ guests who refuse to...
Read moreMeru Suites is a golf resort, spa, and hotel. The rooms are spacious and have a bedroom, living area, and kitchenette. I stayed in a 2-bed apartment for four nights and then moved to a cheaper 1 bed room. There was complimentary water, soft drinks, and a jar of bombay mix snacks in the room, which were nice touches. I thought the bed was a bit on the hard side in the 1-bed apartment, which was my only disappointment. . The hotel is located north of the main centre of Ipoh and I stayed here because it was close to where I was attending a conference. Grab taxis will pick you up from here, but meet the driver at the inner security gate as it seems to be a bit complicated for them to be let through. Taxis are very cheap in Ipoh and are a good way to get around if you don't hire a car.
There is a very large outdoor pool and attractive green spaces surrounding the hotel. I imagine the Meru is the perfect location for a golfing trip. There is a good breakfast café serving continental and hot breakfasts. The Dome restaurant is open for lunch and supper with a reasonably wide range of Western and local cuisines.
The staff were very kind and helpful to me during my stay and it was fun to be taken up to the dome restaurant in a golf buggy :). Overall, I would recommend it here if you're not too worried about being super close to Ipoh centre and especially if you like...
Read moreMy experience does not include an overnight stay, but is based on the fact that I make a regular subscription payment to use the resort facilities. ||||In my opinion, in recent years Meru Valley Resort have imposed a raft of rules designed to make their guests’ tennis experience as stunted and limited as possible. Notably, guests are not allowed to play with more than six tennis balls unless they are prepared to shell out nearly one hundred ringgit per hour to play with the resort’s coach, and play at his convenience (Rule 7). I'm assuming this rule applies to hotel guests. The rules are obviously designed to discourage guests from making full use of the tennis facilities. It also means the expensive subscription fees are not good value for money. ||||But this is not the only difficulty resort guests face. For some reason, some non-members and non-resident visitors (the family and friends of a part-time employee) receive priority court-booking status ahead of the paying customers. Unlike paying customers, they can block-book the tennis courts for months in advance and play with as many balls as they choose. Members and guests can therefore experience real difficulties in accessing the facilities they pay for. ||||All this is really beyond my comprehension, as it comes from an organization claiming to “go the extra mile” in a five star...
