Service: LOL imagine my shock when I was showering and my partner was outside and suddenly he tells me that they’re room service is going to make our bed and give us new towels, i was like wuhhhhh but i guess u can say theyre devoted to ensuring you get clean towels and a clean, well made bed.
lobby people also dealt with my insane request - i asked them whether they got maggi (in my defense the vibes were amazing and a hot cup of instant noodles was the perfect occasion for it) but they sadly dont have. actually nothing much abt their service la they’re quite good imo. i did feel they abit understaffed but its wtv for me
Food: i ate, a lot of their food and i’m about to do a food review so if you care about the food, do read below
Buttermilk Chicken with Rice and Cracker and Salady Bits: 6/10 imagine my shock when i saw how WHITE the buttermilk chicken was, and how the “boneless chicken” looked and simply felt like airfried popcorn chicken. they said butterMILK and not just buttermilk. they say its supposed to be spicy but imma be real, spice wasnt even there, idk, i even ate the chilli padi and it wasnt spicy. but i found myself wanting it the next few days i was there but, 6/10.
Beef Garlic Aglio Olio Pasta: 3/10 man. disappointed. it was so expensive just for the pasta’s only meat be the beef pepperoni. seriously. and it was hella mid like you, you at home reading this, can cook it better. seriously not worth the price
Asam Pedas Salmon: 9/10 HIGH ratings because man, they weren’t stingy with their salmons at ALL. asam pedas was asam pedas-ing but also felt like they couldnt mess asam pedas up ah honestly like its such a kampong dish, aint no way they could mess it up. high ratings cuz salmon was really a lot, like you have to be there to really experience what i mean by A LOT
fish and chips: 4/10 fish too oily, not crunchy anymore so hard to cut even with the knife. salad part of the dish felt so not fresh and stale? idk how describe the taste but imagine u leave ur veges out for like days at room temp and then u eat, probs taste like that. fries werent evenly coated with salt and mind you, on the menu it says its suppose to be truffle fries. it doesnt even smell like truffles
popcorn chicken and fries: 5/10 eh, cant go wrong. its literally just popcorn chicken and fries but even then the fries werent coated evenly with salt so that was annoying. chicken was quite dry but by that time, i knew their food standards were pretty bad so this wasnt all new honestly
kung pao: 5/10 eh, same like the buttermilk chicken. but with kicap AHAHA
breakfast buffet (RM68 for adult, dont know about kids, can see the image i attached)
nasi lemak didnt taste like nasi lemak at all, just felt like it was white rice with a dash of santan ayam masak merah was lowkey not bad but gravy and colour of it threw me off cocktail chicken hotdogs, well, hotdogs, but mini ones, u cant go wrong with it honestly if u see other reviews abt how limited options, theyre right but its also wtv for me, just wished that the 2 days i ate the breakfast got other food options. i ate the same thing for both breakfast man sigh
ANOTHER THING TO NOTE: THEY CHARGE YOU FOR LITERALLY EVERYTHING
TLDR: bring ur own snacks cuz no way else to get food. staff are good imo, just boring there. good views tho. will write...
Read moreWe had a good stay at Tunamaya. This is a long review but it will tell you everything you need to know about Tumamaya, especially if you are travelling as a family with young kids. I will try to cover as much as I can.The service we received was excellent. The staff were very accommodating and attended to all our needs during our stay. The receptionist was kind enough to allow us to take their boat to Genting jetty free of charge so that we could explore that part of the island. From reception to housekeeping, the staff gave us a top notch service. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We stayed in a semi beach villa and had views of both the rainforest on one end and the beach on the other end. Just make sure to sweep the room for any bugs and insects. There are monkeys in the area, so please make sure to keep doors and windows closed. The only minor issue we had was that the room did not have any normal tea and creamer. Only coffee, sugar and green tea was provided. We had to request it from the front desk. Although we eventually received tea, they didn't have any creamers. However, the restaurant staff was kind enough to give us some milk. I would like to request the hotel to please provide normal tea and creamers, which should be standard for every hotel. For future guests, I would advise carrying tea and milk with you or be prepared to buy milk and tea from the hotel. The beach was okay. This was not the best beach to swim in as there are many rocks but you will find some clear spots to swim, which are more like tidal pools. My advice would be to carry sand/water shoes to wear while swimming. This is a must!! Despite that, we had good weather and the sections without rocks were nice to relax in. However, if you are expecting a nice sandy beach without rocks to swim in, this is not the beach for you. Apart from the pool and hiking trail, there is not much to do on the resort. There is a small activity room with some marbles, colouring books and a couple of board games for the kids. The activities offered such as snorkeling and boat tours are overpriced at RM200/RM250 per person. I feel like the hotel should offer some complimentary activities such as morning yoga, zumba classes, water aerobics and volleyball , which will attract more guests. Also lowering the prices of the boat tours could result in more bookings. We occupied ourselves by making good use of the beach and pool everyday. So, even though Tunamaya is a very quiet and relaxing resort to stay in with stunning views of the beach and rainforest, I would suggest a maximum 3 nights stay for families or else you would get bored.Lastly, the food. Breakfast Was inclusive and it was very good. Many options are available and when the kids didn't eat the restaurant packed the food for us to take away. There is only one restaurant on the resort and the menu has something for everyone. Their crispy fish and chips and rice dishes were very tasty and we were served a decent portion. Prices of meals were between RM25 and Rm40. However the pizza for RM35 was disappointing as it was made with an ultra thin base. The kids enjoyed it but it was not worth the price. All in all breakfast is good and sufficient, some menu items were good. But we also carried our own food, which the staff heated up for us when needed. This is recommended if you are not prepared to pay those prices for food or if you are picky eaters. Overall, it was a good trip and we had a nice relaxing stay...

Reflecting on this experience, I found the resort’s handling of our trip deeply disappointing. From mismanaging our itinerary to failing in basic communication with the ferry crew, they left us stranded and confused. Their lack of support turned what could have been a peaceful retreat into a chaotic ordeal.
Visiting Tioman just before monsoon season (October 31 - November 2) turned out to be more dramatic than I’d anticipated.
A day before our trip, Cataferry informed us that our 10 AM ferry was canceled due to “technical issues.” With only two ferry companies serving the route, I rushed to check tickets with Bluewater, only to find they were sold out. Frustrated that my well-planned trip was unraveling, I contacted Tunamaya resort, hoping they could offer an alternative route or, at the very least, a refund. Initially reluctant, the resort eventually connected me to a ticket agent at Bluewater, who luckily found seats on a 7 AM ferry. Although I had to reschedule my bus to Mersing, it felt like things were finally back on track.
Upon arrival, we started to enjoy the quiet beauty of the resort. The scenery was indeed breathtaking. But just as we thought the rest of our stay would be smooth sailing, another twist awaited.
On our last morning, heavy rains set in, and we gathered with other guests in the lobby at 6 AM to prepare for our 8 AM ferry to Mersing. Following the staff’s instructions, we left our luggage in our rooms, expecting they’d transport it directly to the ferry. This, as we would soon realize, was a mistake.
The weather worsened. Waves crashed against the jetty as the ferry struggled to dock. At 7:20 AM, the resort finally sent small speedboats to ferry groups to the Genting jetty, promising our luggage would follow on a larger boat. The journey was turbulent, with waves battering us until we arrived at the jetty at 7:50. By then, the Bluewater crew in Genting was impatiently urging us to board as we just arrived. We explained our luggage was still with the resort, but they ignored us, insisting we board immediately or risk missing the only ferry back.
Caught between missing our luggage or missing the ferry, we hesitated. As we stood on the jetty, watching another family board without their bags, the ferry departed at 8:10 sharp, leaving us behind in the rain. Fortunately, one family refused to board and stayed with us at the dock. Together, we tried to communicate with the resort and kept each other calm, hoping to find a solution. In that moment, their support helped us feel less stranded, giving us the resolve to keep pushing for answers.
After numerous calls and anxious waiting, the resort finally replied, saying they’d requested the ferry captain to wait for us — but we all knew it wouldn’t happen. Nearly 20 minutes later, the last ferry from Tunamaya arrived with our luggage and remaining passengers, yet there was still uncertainty about how we’d get home. Amidst hope and anxiety, we finally waited for a new Bluewater ferry to dock at around 9 AM. Gratefully, we boarded and could at last begin our journey back, relieved to put this chaotic...
