I spent a milestone birthday at Cocoon Maldives. This was not my first trip to the Maldives, so I’m benchmarking this resort against prior experiences. A few important facts: I’m a solo, English-speaking, American woman of color who travels extensively. I love the ocean—especially life beneath the surface—so this review reflects those interests and perspectives. BLUF: I do not recommend Cocoon for snorkelers or divers. The reefs here are far less vibrant and diverse than those in the southern Maldives. Your money will go further there. That said, Cocoon is ideal for families with young children or guests celebrating special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries. Getting There: This was my first sea plane transfer in the Maldives (previous trips required a domestic flight). The sea plane is tiny—I had to duck to board—and you're charged for overweight luggage. I always travel with snorkel gear, so that added up. On the way in, I had a row to myself; on the way back, I had to share, which was less comfortable. However, the aerial views were stunning—have your camera ready. Arrival: Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted warmly. Staff introduce themselves during a short walk to reception, where you’ll get a cold lavender towel and drink. Check-in is quick, and your host will take you on a golf cart tour of the island. Dining: Meals are at set times. If you miss them, you miss them. Unless you're a light eater, I highly recommend the All-Inclusive package so you can eat and drink freely. Guests: I believe I was the only American, and for a time, the only English speaker. Most guests were Eastern European, many with very young children. Personally, I don’t understand traveling so far with babies, but if that’s you, Cocoon is family-friendly. If you prefer quiet, consider their adults-only sister property. Excursions: Avoid the in-house excursion desk. I booked a shark snorkeling trip through them, and a staff member made it miserable. We spent 10 rushed minutes at a reef, were herded like cattle, and were denied fresh water to rinse off—though the crew used it for themselves. Fruit and drinks were offered, but who wants to eat salty and sticky? Contrast that with the 3rd-party company by the pool/bar area. I booked a private trip with Paola as my guide—it was excellent. She treated me with dignity and gave me freedom to explore. Paola is a gem. Book with her, not the island team. Complaints: If you are unhappy, inform your host. The management teams value feedback and want to hear from you. Snorkeling: I snorkeled daily in the house reef even on days I had excursions. The best entry point is near the "I Love You" sign in the island's north. The current increases as the day goes on. I saw two turtles frequently and plenty of Blacktip reef sharks. If you’re new to snorkeling, the house reef alone offers a decent experience—no need to book an excursion. While better than most Caribbean islands, the reefs in the Lhaviyani Atoll do not compare to the southern atolls. Amenities & Costs: This resort inflates its prices significantly. What a local might pay is not what you’ll be charged. Watch your spending—it’s easy to rack up a $1,000 (USD) tab for relatively little. The value isn’t there. Celebrations: Cocoon excels at making special occasions feel special. On my birthday, I felt like a rockstar. I’ll always appreciate that. Shoutouts: Anipa from Khazakhstan is a star—warm, bright, and future-forward in hospitality. She made me feel truly welcomed. Migu was professional and helpful when I had an issue with an excursion. He handled it with calm and care. Would I return? No—most likely not.

A truly honest Appraisal. We arrived by seaplane on the Sunday and were welcomed ashore and escorted to reception and then shown to our villa. We had travelled some 24hrs and were keen to shower.Imagine our disgust to find a Face towel and Bath towel(rolled up as presented by housekeeping)with human excrement on them.Someone had actually wiped their bottom with them and then rolled them up.Naturally we reported this but found deaf ears and a we don't listen to complaints attitude. We brushed it off deciding to make the best of things.Next day we decide to go for a snorkel at the back of the villa as advised.A series of steps lead down to the water(see pics).Their is no grab rail for the first few steps so I grabbed the horizontal wooden slats structure to support me on way down.I rapidly found myself in the water sooner than I intended.I exited the water noticing a wooden slat floating.I was pretty beaten up bruises/swelling and grazes to both arms and my buttocks. The slat had given way and thrown me down the flight of steps into the water. On inspection of slat I discovered 1 rusty nail had secured it.Others were likewise. We phoned reception and the resort Doctor attended. He treated my wounds and prescribed ice buckets 3 times a day for swelling(we received 1 in total). The resort apologised claiming nothing like this had ever happened before but talking to other guests we discovered 2 similar incidents the same week.Clearly their is zero planned maintenance on the Island. The whole week I never witnessed any going on.The accommodation is weathered showing were and tear and structural cracks. We were offered a free massage which we gratefully accepted. The food was a let down. The usual repetitive and bland offerings rapidly become the norm. The staff. Some are lovely others not so much. They are almost 100% from poor nations and paid peanuts. Our liaison person Rosie.1 month in the job and eighteen.Meeting with Rosie(the Brit appointed to deal with Brits)became a daily awkward scenario her lack of experience/confidence all to apparent..By end of stay she was happy to see the back of us and the feeling was entirely mutual. We spoke with the Resort Manager on two occasions but he came across as uninterested. On the final night he offered us a free lobster dinner to compensate for our hardships. We of course accepted. The meal was truly awful.I forced myself to eat the lobster but in truth it was horrible(they charge tourists $110 to eat this stuff)the Dim sun starter was terrible the pasta like chewing rubber. The desert covered in tasteless chocolate and filled with warm cream was disgusting.I was looking at these lobster in the glass tank and decided to converse with one of the waiting staff. This guy was the only truly honest person I met during my whole stay.He said "oh we don't eat them, we call them sea cockroach they hang about the top of the reef in their thousands and you can literally pick them up by hand" in other words they consider them vermin. The taste lingers with me still. It was truly vile.I close on a positive note. The location is truly paradise although in October the weather is mixed. We had wet overcast days as well as sunny days.Would I return.Emphatically NO.Being the first designer location they rest on their laurels and have become very complacent.Oh a special mention for "Mush" a lovely young boy working at the main bar.He was an absolute joy amongst so many tired and jaded.

A Dream Honeymoon at Cocoon Maldives – Beyond 5 Stars! We had the most incredible 10-day honeymoon at Cocoon Maldives, and words honestly fall short. This wasn’t a 5-star experience — it was a 6 or 7-star escape into paradise. From start to finish, everything was simply unbelievable and unreal. Arrival & Welcome: Our journey started with a beautiful seaplane transfer that was absolutely breath-taking — soaring over the crystal-clear turquoise waters and atolls. Landing on the water was so cool and smooth, and from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like royalty. The warm, genuine hospitality was instantly evident. The Island & Accommodation: We spent 6 nights in a Beach Suite — truly a slice of heaven. The room had so much character, charm, and comfort. Stepping straight out onto soft white sand and having reef sharks and rays swim just offshore was surreal. Then we moved to the Overwater Lagoon Suite for 4 nights — pure magic! The room was stunning, and our private pool overlooking the lagoon was next-level amazing. We even had a floating breakfast that felt like a scene out of a dream. Dining & Activities: Cocoon’s all-inclusive restaurant experience was top-tier. Every meal was beautiful, delicious, and diverse. The private dinner at Manta restaurant and our private beach BBQ dinner were unforgettable — romantic, perfectly arranged, and delicious. We also did so many fun activities: jet skiing, a dolphin tour (we saw so many!), sailing, snorkelling, and even made good use of the gym, which was well-equipped and spotless. Exceptional Staff – The Heart of Cocoon: What made this honeymoon truly unforgettable was the incredible staff. Every single person we interacted with made us feel special, cared for, and completely at ease. Anipa – so warm, friendly, always smiling. Her daily greetings truly brightened our days. Roja – lovely and gentle presence, always with a beautiful smile. Victor – the main waiter at Kurum Bar, he was professional, friendly, and just fantastic at his job. Shaheen – a star! Every day, he went above and beyond. So helpful, kind, and attentive — nothing was ever too much. Dinesh – what a sweet soul. Every day he made the effort to prepare fresh fruit for my wife, always with a smile. Jai – Smiling every day, and a great chef. Shiraz - Kind, friendly and polite. Jinelle – friendly, polite, and a wonderful waitress. Gais – our island host, and an exceptional communicator. He made us feel right at home, explained everything clearly, and was always available for questions or help. Keshan – a manager, very professional and friendly. It’s clear he runs a tight, guest-focused operation. Hassan – a good waiter who made an effort to be noticed. His enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed. Every staff member we met contributed to the magic of this trip in some way. Their smiles, professionalism, and genuine warmth made all the difference. Final Thoughts: If you’re thinking of going to Cocoon Maldives — don’t hesitate. Whether it’s for your honeymoon, a special trip, or just an escape from the world, this place is something else. From the stunning natural beauty to the thoughtful service and attention to detail, it was easily one of the best experiences of our lives. Thank you, Cocoon, for making our honeymoon everything we dreamed of and more. We’ll be back one day. ❤️ Steven & Sophie

Sitting in our room and packing our luggage’s but had to write this updated review before we left. We spent the first 8 days of our honeymoon at Cocoon. From the moment we arrived, Baash (aka Hassan) has been beyond helpful to help us make the most of our honeymoon here in the Maldives. From greeting us as soon as our seaplane landed to escorting us to our room and showing us around. We mentioned to him that we were really interested in upgrading to a lagoon villa with a private pool, since it was all full when we arrived he was able to get us one as soon as it became available a few days later (at a reasonable rate)

We arrived on late Monday evening and on Tuesday there was a cocktail party held by the general manager, Ram Bhoyroo. During the event, Ram gave us a background of the resort, the staff, and the expanding business. You’ll see him around the resort and during breakfast, lunch, and dinner at The Octopus. He is very personable, friendly, and most of all hands on which contributes to the growing business. Cocoon is very lucky to have someone like him run the business.

Now my husband and I are from New York and at first we were skeptical about their all inclusive dining. Well we can assure you the food at Cocoon is absolutely delicious. During breakfast Pandy cooks up some good “beef” and eggs also known as streak as eggs in the United States. Iqbal makes AMAZING fresh pasta, always cooked al dente. I literally at his pasta everyday, although most of the time it’s dried pasta, it’s still so good. Purna is usually found cooking the daily specials, he makes an amazing tuna tartare and so personable. The servers at the octopus are all great but Shameem is just so attentive and always makes sure you’re good and glass is filled.

Since it was our honeymoon we did 2 specialty dinners. We did the candlelight beach dinner and the candlelight dinner at Manta. Adheel served us during our beach candlelight dinner and was very good. Naazif served us in Manta and he was great as well, the first we’re going crazy in the lagoon during and dinner and my husband loved it, Naazif was able to identify certain fishes in the water and it definitely made the dinner so much more memorable.

The bar tenders were all really good but Ghanshyam takes the lead. We would go to the bar every night after dinner and as soon as we sat down he already knew what drinks we were going to order and had it ready for us, now that’s customer service at its finest.

Our rooms were made twice a day and water was refilled each time. 336 was our original room and Zahir always made sure our room was clean. Then when the private room became available, Ahmed cleaned our room. He was always on point with the cleaning and since we were always in the room he rarely bothered us and somehow he just knew when we’d leave because that’s when he’s make the room and refill our water and coffee.

We did 2 excursions during our stay, one sunset fishing cruise and the dolphin and sea turtle cruise. Nixel did both excursions with us. The sunset cruise was ok, I didn’t catch a fish but my husband did and it was nice that you can have them prepare it for either lunch or dinner the next day at an additional charge. The dolphin and turtle cruise was really nice, we saw a lot of dolphins and a sea turtle appeared during the dolphin scouting which was a plus! Then we went to another part of the island for the turtle sighting but you had to know how to swim really well in order to snorkel and sea the sea turtles because the current was extremely strong.

Overall our stay at Cocoon was nothing but exceptional and worth the 20 hour flight from New York and worth every penny. The staff, the service, and the food was all of five star quality. Although the resort is all inclusive nothing was ever compromised and if you have any doubts, don’t! It’s worth it!

The only suggestion I’d have for the resort is that they should make all inclusive drink menu for each table at the octopus because it’s hard remembering all the types of beverages they serve. Other then that,...

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and were treated like royalty! This resort offers five star service from start to finish! We stayed in an over-water villa with private pool and it was magical! We loved that we could snorkel right off of our deck with the complimentary equipment provided, and loved having our own private pool. The room itself is so beautiful and the housekeeping was great! We came home several nights to beautiful floral displays on the bed celebrating our honeymoon.

We also chose to do the XXL package which offered us more all-inclusive options than the base rate does such as complimentary experiences and excursions, higher quality alcohol, beverages, and snacks. We were shocked when we arrived and discovered that we had our own private butler, Riyaz, who went above and beyond in making this the most magical and memorable trip of our lives. Riyaz scheduled everything for us, took us wherever we needed to go, and handled everything on our behalf so that we never had to lift a finger! Even for our departure, he arranged for a private bus to get us from the sea plane and also booked a lounge on our behalf at the airport so that we could wait for our flight comfortably. He is truly the best!

The food here is amazing! We took advantage of every meal to try everything offered and we were never disappointed! Indian night and Italian night were some of our favorites at the Octopus restaurant! The more formal restaurant, Manta, was also exquisite! We even came back right before we departed for one last cheesecake dessert! Also, the pizza bar is amazing! The most memorable dinner was the under the stars beach one set up for us by our Butler, Riyaz. He worked all day preparing this for us and we could not believe our eyes when we arrived. They made a heart in the sand filled with rose petals and surrounded by lights and ferns and wrote our names in light and fire in the sand while we dined on 4 courses next to the ocean. It was such a magical experience that I cried at how beautiful and romantic it was! It felt like being in a movie!

The island itself is so unique and absolutely stunning. We woke up each morning to watch the sunrise and were surprised that we were consistently the only ones that did. However, this was great because it felt like we had the entire island to ourselves and made it an even more special experience. We enjoyed walking around the entire island each day and observing all of the wildlife, including baby sharks in the shallows! The beach was pristine and the water was crystal clear. While we did come at the end of a cyclone, the rest of our days were full of sunshine! The good thing about the rainy season is that the rain is very fleeting and never lasted longer than 10 minutes. While that meant that the water was too choppy to participate in any of the excursions, we were able to supplement them with other activities on the island, including snorkeling on the lagoon side and seeing a plethora of fish! Also, don't miss the sunset because it so beautiful!

The entire staff here works tirelessly to provide you with the best experience possible and it shows! Everyone is so kind, friendly, and attentive and we enjoyed interacting with each team member during our stay! From the bartenders, to the watersports team, to the food servers, to the spa girls, to the reception staff, to the housekeepers-everyone was top notch and so sweet. They made the trip even more enjoyable and we felt so pampered by them.

I think this is absolutely the best resort in the whole world and I can't imagine any where else beating it in any sense. From the service to the quality and everything in between, it provided us the most beautiful paradise fathomable and we already can't wait to go back! I can't recommend this place enough! You will be overjoyed by how well you are treated and by how stunning...

We have just returned from an amazing never to be forgotten family holiday at Cocoon Maldives!

Transfer from Male Airport At Male airport Cocoon staff meet and make the transfer process to the resort seamless. From the main terminal in Male Airport you taken to the modern seaplane terminal operated by Trans Maldivian Airways. After short 35 minute flight you are welcomed by Cocoon staff on the jetty and our host Adda.

Our Rooms A glass of prosecco in reception followed by a quick orientation tour around the island with Adda and we were in our Beach Villas. Our villas were spacious Italian in design and of course the Maldivian outdoor bathroom and shower. Our veranda led out to the beach and within 20 meters we were swimming in warm turquoise water.

Food We ate in octopus restaurant throughout our stay where there was a different theme every night. Giovanni, the food was excellent and the attitude and service of your chefs was outstanding. In particular Dilshan (who my daughters called the fruit guy) and Kushal who sent me the recipe of the most amazing curry I have ever had.

When you are sitting down in the octopus restaurant look out for Shaah and the wonderful Mae who looked after us so well, and who we will never forget.

Drinks Like many we stayed with the house cocktails, beer, wine and iced tea. Again nothing was too much trouble and as soon as you're glass was empty it was full again thanks to Ash and the other staff in the two bars.

Excursions The Dolphin trip was well worth the money for us. A pod of around 30 Dolphins swam with the boat for around 30 minutes. I recommend the free Snorkelling trip to the house reef; the staff guide you through the crystal clear waters and point out turtles, manta rays and loads of tropical fish.

Staff All the staff we interacted with were professional, polite and happy. Front of house staff are respectful and very engaging. Nothing was too much trouble.

The Resort Overall the resort was quiet and very relaxing; on many occasions we were the only people on the beach. The accommodation and facilities are of a good quality. There were couples and families staying while we were there.

We booked an all inclusive stay without the XL package; it was great for us. (We did pay for the dolphin trip and some coconut cocktails) and the price was as expected. Wherever you stay there are always going to be extras that you may wish to partake of which are not included such as excursions which you will have to pay for that goes without saying.

I haven’t been to the Maldives before so can’t compare it to other resorts Would I recommend Cocoon Maldives …. From what we experienced 100% yes …. in a heart beat

Message to Mr Jay In looking at what others have written about Cocoon your staff have a way of making everyone feel uniquely special. It is amazing how your staff constantly achieve this. For example: Mae knew what four of us individually liked to drink at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I would also like to say thank you to Rina who made sure we were ok and was also responsible for us ending up at your staff party. What a great opportunity to get to know and see everyone relaxed and off duty. The staff cabaret that night was hilarious and we feel quite privileged that we had been invited in to see behind the scenes of Cocoon. (I am thinking of introducing the cleaned room prize at home not sure if it will work with our two girls though)
