We have come to the Maldives as a family many times over the years and have stayed at many 5 star resorts with fabulously high standards of service and food (ie Huvafen Fushi, Como malafushi, Como Cocoa and repeatedly at Six Senses Laamu), primarily to surf and snorkel….but our holiday at Mavericks has been the best holiday that we have ever had in the Maldives, for quality and ease of access to surf breaks and for snorkelling, the friendly and exemplary service, quality of food ….and also for value for money, which meant that we could stay just a few days longer than we normally would in the Maldives! …Heaven! We didn’t come with Perfect Wave but my son brought his own board and just surfed every day on the island’s own break, Sarongs, which was right in front of his tent! Be warned, it’s a shallow fast break, for advanced surfers and I recommend bringing a light steamer and and booties for reef protection. (As a beginner bodyboarder in just a bikini, I dared only catch the very tail end of the wave)! The resort has by far the best and largest house reef ie quality of coral and HUGE number of every type of beautiful fish, sharks, squid, turtles, mantas and large fish, that I have ever experienced in the Maldives…and because the resort is tiny, new and remote, the coral is undamaged by boats and tourists with no signs of environmentally destructive seagrass clearing or broken coral. Despite the warm water temperature, the coral has not been bleached out and there are beautiful blues, yellow, green, purple, pink and yellow corals. The currents can be tricky though and although I doubt that it’s dangerous (if you’re confident or with a guide, you can treat it as a drift snorkel), I wouldnt recommend that young children or weak swimmers go out too far without a parent or guide in case they panic …tho if you pick your times carefully the currents can be minimal. The service is EXCEPTIONAL!!! The management and the staff are internationally experienced, professional and so patient and friendly. They went out of their way and above and beyond to accomodate us in every possible way. Our slightest request for assistance or culinary preference was not only catered for but anticipated and then way surpassed our expectations! The head chef is delightful, approachable so talented, inventive and heartwarmingly passionate about food and cooking. All of the chefs are experienced and enthusiastic about making the most of the local produce! The servings were so generous that we struggled to do justice to the quality of the super fresh produce and the talents of the chefs! The resort is immaculate and the tents are stylish, spacious, luxurious, air conditioned and serviced immaculately twice daily. The bar boat is so much fun! Unlike other 5 star resorts that we’ve stayed at, in the Maldives, we got a real taste of local life…we explored the village and local beaches and their reefs, ate delicious reef fish ball curry at the local cafe and particularly loved trying real Maldivian food at Mavericks, like the breadfruit chips, smoked dried tuna and muranga leaf (fried and in smoothies)! The culinary highlight was the sashimi, because the island is so remote and untouched, the fish is so abundant and fresh! Best sashimi with the most delicious dipping sauce that I’ve ever tasted, incredible ceviche (Henry the head chef is a genius!) and amazing fishing! I caught a huge trevally with just a hand line (and a very generous amount of assistance and patience from the staff!!!) If you care about the environment, nature, your footprint, want a taste of the real untouched Maldives, then there is nothing else like Mavericks in the Maldives. If you want over the water villas (that are btw constructed and fully outfitted in China or Borneo and imported whole on barges and just bolted onto concrete pylons) spas, gyms, swimming pools and imported exotic fruits, farmed seafoods, decadent French cheese platters etc (which all go hand in hand btw with coral damaged by construction and larger numbers of tourists resulting in less marine life) then don’t come here …or combine your trip to mavericks with a stay at one of these many cookie cutter 5 star resorts. This is a truly (not just paying lip service to) low impact eco resort with 5 star service and food. If you care about nature, the environment, can surf well and are a competent ocean swimmer and keen snorkeler, you will be...

This company sell you “surf package “ - |3 times the price of the accommodation and they don’t organise a good surf service ! |At at the contrary they block the manager of the Hotel to find other solutions ! They just want still your money - rude : |I booked a 10-day Maldives surf package with The Perfect Wave after clearly explaining my situation: I am an intermediate surfer, recovering from a knee injury, and I specifically asked for a safe and suitable destination. Unfortunately, what I received was the exact opposite of what was promised.| • The main surf spot, advertised as just 10 minutes from the hotel, was closed for a local competition. This meant no surfing at all at the advertised location.| • The nearest available spot was two hours away by boat each way. This meant four hours of travel on a small boat, often in unsafe sea conditions, just to surf for about an hour.| • In total, over 10 days, I surfed only three times — about 1.5 hours each session.||When I asked the company Perfect Waves to provide alternatives, their response was dismissive and rude: “It’s not our fault if you can’t surf the other spots in front of the hotel.” However, those spots were expert-only, with shallow reef breaks, completely unsuitable (and dangerous) for an intermediate surfer recovering from an injury — something I had made very clear from the start.||This was not just disappointing; it was irresponsible. They knowingly put me in unsafe conditions and offered no real support or solutions, despite the fact that I had paid three times more for the surf package compared to just hotel accommodation. A transfer to another atoll with accessible waves could have been a reasonable option, but they didn’t even try.| • Extremely unprofessional and rude customer service| • Misleading advertising of the surf package| • Unsafe and unsuitable conditions for the level of surfing requested| • No effort to solve problems or offer alternatives ||In the contrary the Menager of the Maraverick tried to help me and convince the agency to Find other solutions.. but unfortunately Perfect Waves was interested just to still my money! ||So thank you to the staff of Maverick to have tried to help me … i didn’t surf and lost lots of money .. but I have spent 10 days in this...
